The moonlight pooled across the floor like silver blood. The gardens were waiting. Seraphine stood beneath the arch of dead moonflowers, her cloak shifting like smoke. The air hummed with the weight of our magic. “You should be ash for what you’ve done,” she hissed. I smiled faintly. “And yet you’re here.” Her eyes burned. “Release her. Let the girl go, or I’ll drag you out myself.” I laughed softly, tilting my head. “You couldn’t even drag yourself out of my shadow.”

“I’ll patch in and rewrite the command script—if he doesn’t wake up first.” Aurora moved to cover him. Elias and Kai took flanking positions. Asher stayed by Damien’s side, wide-eyed but steady. Null knelt and began working. Seconds passed. Then the cradle twitched. A groan of metal. A crackle of static. Seraph opened his eyes. No pupils. Just pale, glowing white. And he moved. Fast. Too fast. The cradle burst apart as Seraph lunged down, landing between them with a heavy, unnatural grace. Seraph gave Esper a quick kiss on the lips. "What about you?" Esper gave her mate a curious look. "You still haven't told me what name to call you." Seraph half smiled as he traced her lips. "As I said before, Gabriel died with Lailah. I'm forever and always, your Seraph." Sliding his hand from Esper's cheek to the back of her head, Seraph pulled the girl in for a passionate kiss. His lips moved in harmony with hers and gave her the occasional nip. Seraph felt Esper's lips part, and he gladly accepted the invitation. He slid his tongue inside and explored every millimeter of her mouth, savoring the taste.
