The Things We Don't Say
“This is not some dumb professor who can’t even stick it in, Jordan. This is my sister! My bloody sister.”
I stifled a groan from the migraine that was threatening to pull me under. Her voice was loud, too loud, piercing through the silence that I had just begun to enjoy.
“All I hear you say, Heather, is something about your damn sister whose name I cannot even remember,” I whispered, trying to get on my feet. “And honestly, I don’t care about what this is. Just leave me alone.”
I made to move past Heather, but she stepped in front of me abruptly, tears running down her face. My head jerked back in mild surprise. I had never seen Heather cry before.
