I said to her at one point, unable to hide my suspicion.
“I’m not,” she said simply, offering nothing further, walking away before I could ask anything else.
That evening, once Ava had finally fallen asleep after insisting on three extra bedtime stories, I found Sienna curled up on the small couch in the sitting room, a cup of tea warming her hands.
“Long day,” she said, making room for me beside her.
“Long few weeks,” I said, sitting down close enough that our shoulders touched.
“Three bedtime stories tonight?” she asked, smiling slightly. “She’s negotiating you up every night.”
