Diamond stuck her tongue out her human. Kydence being the Shadow Guard she is, she climbed down the tree and silently sat down next to her male. A variety of a dozen or so tents litter the small clearing. Daring looks, he had something stupid in mind. ‘If he touches a hair on Doug’s head I will kill him.’ I heard them screaming again and staring at Zade. “So, Zade it is!!!!” They screamed and didn't let me speak. I shook my head as I stared at Doug, who didn't want to look back at me.

"Malcolm, James, and I are the real deal—a family of three. Someone like you, who can't even have pups, has no business standing next to Malcolm." With a smug look, she strutted away. Meanwhile, I slipped away quietly, lugging two suitcases behind me.

As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden hue over campus, Charlie, Maya, Ethan, and Liam gathered in their secret hiding place, the old abandoned hedge garden behind the science building. I walked towards the shadow guard who called for me. When I was finally in front of him, he slowly lowered his mask, revealing his face. This was considered taboo for a shadow guard. No one, not even their master should see their faces. That was the only secret they were allowed to keep from their masters. I was surprised when he pulled down his mask.

It reeked of impending madness; the opening yawning before him like an omen. William stared in as the group walked by it on their way to the next room over. Inside this one was a solid silver slab with chains hanging from the edges where the arms and legs of the victim; him, in this case; would lie. Under the slab was a metal funnel to drain the bloodshed. His bloodshed. Above the slab was a huge grate of metal spikes. The spikes were approximately a foot in length, which guaranteed they pierced all the way through the body from the front to the back.

Because of this, they were often rounded up and forced into labour with another species called Shade. The Shade were like gigantic spiders with extremely thick skin and had claws protruding from a joint in all eight of their legs that surrounded the top of every hoof. They had huge, spiked mandibles that were forever clicking away, and eyes that were tiny slits. Compared to them both, I was useless. I was only five; my tiny teeth and weak claws could not defend myself against something that was near eight feet tall, so I stayed on the outskirts of the Unit with Tin before returning to the safety of our burrow every night.
