The truth.” The forest groaned around them. “You’re a threat,” Ava whispered. “A mistake.” “No.” The shadow’s smile widened. “I’m what happens when you tear your soul into four pieces and offer them to love. I’m the piece that was left behind.”

The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.

I felt Max pressing my hand tighter, my eyes immediately turning into her. "They are fine, right?" she whispered. I bit my lower lip, unsure how to answer but I know I had to. "They are. That's Storm. He won't let anything bad happen to your member," Max smiled at my words. And somehow, I feel a little less tense than earlier. We all trust our members. We do. Lukas sighed softly, "Shadows can merge with other shadows, becoming part of them," he said, his voice still near a whisper, "And can move through them, from one to another, with little resistance."
