Shattered Bonds: A Second Chance Mate Novels & Stories

"Our mates bond. I've felt it for so long now, and I thought you did, too." Pausing, he released a little pressure from his grip and added in a definitive tone, "Valeria, I'm your second chance, mate." My breath hitched in my throat as my heart pounded violently underneath my ribcage like the galloping of a thousand horses. I've heard stories about mate bonds, second chance mates, and how these so-called mystical bonds were irresistible and fated. Well, that was absolutely none of my goddamn business at this point. I had a revenge plan to set in motion.

“Your mate... he’s with another woman right now.” “No,” I croaked, trying to wrest the agony away. My vision blurred with unshed tears. “That can’t be because I don't have a mate anymore...” My hands trembled as I forced myself to sit up straighter, despite the crushing feeling that had lodged itself in my heart. “You have another mate, Kayla. A second chance mate.” A second mate? It didn’t make sense. How could I have another bond when the first had already shattered me? My chest tightened, anger bubbling up alongside the confusion.

Time stopped. No. Not stopped. Shattered. A sharp, burning sensation exploded in my chest, stealing the air from my lungs. It wasn’t pain—not exactly. It was something deeper. Something ancient. Something inevitable. My knees nearly buckled as the bond snapped into place like a chain locking around my soul. Mate. The word echoed inside my mind, loud and undeniable. My heart pounded wildly as panic surged through me. No. No, no, no. Not him. Anyone but him.

Elara's POV "I know the bond is broken," Victor said, his voice raspy. "I felt it tear." He staggered into the sanctuary, looking even more worn down than he had three months ago. "Then what are you doing here?" I asked coldly. "I'm begging you to come back," he said, his voice thick with desperation. "Not because you're my fated mate, not because of the bond. Because I need you." "Oh, you need me now?" I laughed, but there was no humor in it. "Where was this feeling when you were using me? When you were humiliating me?"

4 Adriel It barely took a second to perceive I was attacked in the face and fell on the muddy glass, beside the frail body that kept whining muffled pleas. A fresh scar on my face and blood streaming down. Despite the brand-new pain arising from my face to my chest, testing me to divert my attention from the face hidden behind the brown tresses, I remained stoned toward her unseen face. She whined again, her soft grunts clinked in my ears, like a poem. It sort of soothed my heart but I couldn't admit she was my mate. I would've smelt it, felt it, knew it.

I wouldn’t shed tears for a man who had used me. I turned and ran to my car, with a shattered heart and a broken mate bond. Behind me, the fire continued to burn. The man who was my fated mate completed his bonding ceremony with another woman. This time, freely, without me.

Breeana's arms tightened around him as she tucked her head into his chest. "Yours. Always. My mate." He felt their mate bond snap into focus. It had always been there growing stronger day to day but now it no longer felt like a thread or a rope between them. It was like a path, a river, a bridge connecting both their souls. Binding them together forever until eternity. It was done. They were sealed together forever. Breeana's breathing grew heavier as she succumbed to slumber entangled as she was with him. He wouldn't mind sleeping this way but he didn't want to cause his mate any discomfort so he pulled out of her and moved her.

He grabbed my waist, lifted me, then slammed upward into me — again, again, faster — until he let out a hoarse groan, filling my womb with his seeds. We stayed like that for a while, trying to catch our breath. He pulls me into another kiss. “Now you have your answer,” he said, pulling away. “A mate bond can be broken by those involved. Your mother broke the bond— you didn't. So we are still mates. Raven.”

There was something darker under the grief now. “You would have killed allies if we hadn’t contained you,” I added. That finally made him lift his head. His eyes were red-rimmed, exhausted, but no longer feral. Just… shattered. “I know,” he said. “I lost my mate, my soulmate, my other half,” he continued quietly. “I’m sorry about that,” I said. “Even though I know no amount of sorry can bring her back, either way, I’m still sorry.” “Right?” he said, nodding faintly.

I throw these words and leave the room, leaving him writhing in pain. I don’t care what he is. I would never let this mate bond make me weak again.
