Her face was set in concentration, her brows drawn, lips tight.
“I told you I’m not dying here,” he said through a grimace, trying to ease the tension in her shoulders.
“That’s not funny,” she muttered, not looking at him. “You could’ve been killed.”
“So could you.”
“I had to try,” she said, finally meeting his gaze. “I saw something in its eyes. Something human.”
Ronan nodded, watching the beast's massive chest rise again, slower now. “There was something human. Someone, maybe. Or what’s left of one.”
