Before I could say another word, the line disconnected, leaving behind nothing but the hollow beeping tone. The cold grew sharper and sharper, carving straight into my bones. Gritting my teeth, I pulled the blanket tighter around myself. Suddenly, my phone lit up with a notification. I turned my head slightly and saw that Morgan had just updated his social media. In the photo, he wore nothing but a thin short-sleeved shirt with a popsicle hanging from his mouth. 'So lucky Ms. Sheffield brought me a generator, or I would have frozen tonight too.' I stared at the picture for a long time.

Marcus POV I did not sleep, and neither did she, and when the light came full into the window on Tuesday morning we did not pretend the night was still the night. We let it be morning. That was the last gift we gave each other before the world came back we did not cling to the dark past its hour. We let the grey become day, and we got up, and we began the last few hours the way people begin any morning, which was the only way I could stand to begin this one.

Windows are usually closed, as are doors. However, I couldn't sleep yet. It was 4 a.m. in the morning, and my body has gotten used to waking up that early for the past few days. "Sienna, Grandma's here with you. Don't be afraid." My tears started falling again. Time ticked by. The morning light streamed through the stained-glass windows, lighting up the empty hall. Grandma stood up and walked to Vivian's door. "Vivian, come out." The door opened. Vivian walked out, looking radiant. There was no sign of death on her. She said softly, "Grandma, Papa, Mamma." Mamma shot up and rushed to hug her, holding her so tight it was like she wanted to merge them together.

His tanned skin contrasted with his orange shirt. "Good morning, Ma'am. You look so beautiful in the morning." His eyes almost disappeared because of his wide smile. "Morning." I smiled a bit. I went to the bench and sat there. I opened the book that I found at the library. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I glanced at Sandro when he sat beside me. I just smiled at him before dropping my gaze on the book. "I did not know that you love reading," he commented. "Yup," I responded, eyes remained on the book.

I managed to throw my legs over the edge of the bed and I peeked at the clock with one eye. 9 o'clock. My eyes went to the two plates again. Lunch and dinner. It was already dawn when Adrian and I went back after our interaction with Samael. I had slept the entire day. Well. Minus the pauses where Adrian demanded full attention from my body and mind. A book on the other nightstand made me crawl to the other side of the bed. Pride and prejudice. "Oh my god." I whispered softly to myself. My fingers touched the worn book. This was the book I read on top of Asta with Adrian behind me. He kept it. A small note peeked from the page. I opened the book on that page and read the neatly written words

Just presence. Dressed in dry clothes. Made fresh coffee. Carried mugs to the terrace. Sat close. Watched the afternoon light stretch across the water. Veronica spoke softly. "I finished a page this morning. While you were sleeping." He looked at her. "Will you read it to me?" She nodded. Rose. Walked inside. Returned with the notebook. Opened it to the marked place. Read aloud. The words came steady. No tremor. She read about the cove in winter. About the frost that made every pebble shine. About the way the sea held its breath before the next wave. About the man who still walked the path with her hand in his. About the house that had learned to wait without loneliness.

~The Next Morning, Eight A.M~ The morning came quickly, its golden light streaming through the curtains and stretching across the bedroom floor. Emma lay awake for a moment, staring at the ceiling, letting the warmth of the sun wash over her. She had always loved mornings like this—quiet, slow, a time for reflection before the world fully stirred. But today, her mind raced with the events to come. Robert had asked her to join him on a trip to the store for the kids. They needed new clothes, some personal items, things to make the house feel more like theirs.

She said furiously and I chuckled saying. "What happened you got up this early... and more to that reading a... book?" She raised a brow saying "Just because you often see me sleeping in the morning doesn't mean I sleep all night. And by the way. Reading is my hobby. And this is a Novel called Darling don't run away. She wanted to answer. She wanted to scream. She wanted answers. Instead, she declined the call. A few seconds later, it rang again. And again. Finally, she switched off her phone. She wasn't ready. Not yet. By afternoon, Emma sat alone in her apartment. She couldn't eat. Couldn't focus. Couldn't stop thinking. A knock interrupted her thoughts. She opened the door. Noah. His eyes immediately softened. "You look terrible." Emma forced a smile. "Good afternoon to you too."
