She stepped away from both of them, toward the fire. "I'm not brave," she gasped. "I'm afraid." Her eyes flashed in the golden light. Nathaniel gulped, his voice a rasp. "Then why—" She turned to him. "Because fear is not the enemy. Silence is." Her voice fell. "I must be the one to end it." Nathaniel's fists curled. "And what if we lose you?" She smiled, fractured, minute. "Then at least you'll know I wasn't afraid to try."

She is afraid to see Xander getting angry while denying, or perhaps, more afraid to see Xander confirms it on her face. 🔸🔸🔸

She did not look away. “I do not fear you,” she said softly. “Then why do you look like you are ready to run?” “I am not running.” Her voice shook. “I am bracing.” I closed my eyes. That hurt. More than any wound. More than the dark crawling beneath my skin. Bracing. For me. She took a breath. “You asked me for the truth. So I will give you the truth. I am not afraid of you. I am afraid of what is happening to you.”

“Stop. It’s me.” Her gaze locks onto mine. But there’s no recognition. Only fear. Raw. Unfiltered. “No…” she whispers, shaking her head frantically. “No, you’re not—” Her breathing spirals. Faster. Unstable. Her pulse spikes under my grip. “Easy,” I say, lowering my voice. “You’re safe.” “I’m not safe!” she snaps, her voice breaking. “I’m never safe—!” Her body tries to rise. Pain hits her instantly.

She never giggles like this. What I have to tell you is not going to be easy for ya’ll to hear. It was hard for me also, but it turned out pretty surprising. My eyes land on her petite figure and I release the breath I didn’t know I was holding for a while now. Her bloodshot eyes and messy hair make me sure of what was wrong with her. Nightmares. Or I'll call the police!" "Go ahead little darling! Do you think we'll let you go?" One of the thugs stepped forward and stretched out his hand trying to touch Kaye's face. Pak! Kaye slapped him in his face and her actions sent the rest of the thugs into a state of shocked. Never would that they have expected her to have the guts to lay her hands on him.

My eyes naturally tilted up, which made me look sharper and harder to approach. They were playing a game, and the bottle on the table pointed to the woman sitting next to Charles. Her challenge was to kiss a man at the table. Everyone jeered and egged her on. Giggling, she snuggled into Charles' arms. "Charlotte is shy. Don't be too hard on her." His words clearly showed he was protecting her. "Come on, Charles, don't wimp out." In the next second, Charles cupped the woman's face and kissed her softly. That was where the video ended.

But, I can't go back. Stevens was also present. He eyes Anna as she walks by. Her head hung off her shoulders. She looks up at a board standing on end propped up on a frame. I see her visibly shaking. I can feel her fear. Her regret. I get that she's sorry and that she promised not to do it again, but I had to show her wolf that she can't do that again.
