"Let it go. I'm right here." She cried until she couldn't anymore. Until the sobs turned to shaky breaths. Until her body went limp against me, exhausted. We sat there in the empty tub, tangled together, for a long time. Finally, she spoke. Her voice was wrecked. "I'm so tired, Kayden." I kissed her hair again. "I know." "I don't know how to do this anymore." "Do what?" "Keep going. Keep fighting. It's been so long." A fresh tear slid down her cheek. "I'm so tired of being strong."

All of my strength went down with the sun, but I'm just a song left unsung. She didn't think she had the strength left to fight anymore. She almost wanted to give up. Not on Alex, never—she could never give up on Alex. But on everything else, what was the point? She was nothing without Alex anyway. She knew that. But she needs to keep going for her child.

Her cold and tough heart suddenly softened a little. After she vented her anger, she lost all her strength. She was very tired all over, and she had a feeling of powerlessness in heart. Her eyes lifted to mine again, but they were heavy now, rimmed with fatigue. Even so, she tried to smile at me. “I am fine,” she insisted softly, as if she could convince me with sheer will. I exhaled slowly. “You are not fine.” A faint crease formed between her brows. “I am tired of resting.” The words came out small, almost frustrated, and something inside my chest tightened painfully. She hated feeling helpless. She hated appearing fragile.

“She’s a weak wolf and they all know it. We’re going to get her out of here. You need to play it cool.” “I fucking hate this.” I lace my fingers with my elbows on the table, resting my forehead on the backs of my hands so I don’t have to watch her being ‘teased’.

Nothing left to pretend. Nothing left to protect. The room felt too quiet. Too empty. Like it was closing in on me slowly. My breathing became uneven again as I pressed my hand against my chest. It hurt. Everything hurt. “I’m tired…” I whispered. The words came out weaker than before. “I’m so tired…” Tired of pretending. Tired of enduring.
