The Alpha’s Pretty Mistake
My reflection stared back, tired eyes, pale skin, the faintest trace of a scar across my jaw.
“I’m still here,” I whispered. “Is that enough?”
No answer. Only the water rippling, disturbed by wind.
And then, light.
It was faint, almost imperceptible at first. The surface shimmered gold, a warm pulse beneath the sunlight. I blinked, leaning closer. For a split second, it wasn’t my reflection staring back.
It was hers.
Rain.
Her eyes glowing that molten shade, her expression calm, almost proud.
“Go on,” she said soothingly a second time.
