I could see the glow of my laptop, the half-eaten bag of Doritos, and the frozen faces of Dani and Lila on the screen. “This is the end of the book, Iris,” a voice boomed—the Author’s voice, sharp and impatient. “You’ve broken the narrative. I’m hitting the reset button. You can come back to your world, and they can go back to being ink. It’s cleaner this way.” I looked at my hands. They were still glowing with that jagged white light. I could feel Kieran’s heart beating against my palm, and Rowan’s steady breath on the back of my neck. Even across dimensions, the choices we made were holding on.

The world outside ceased to exist as I willingly surrendered myself to the intoxicating allure of this enchanting tale. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the room, I reluctantly closed the book, the final pages whispering a bittersweet farewell. Isabella and Lewis story had reached its conclusion, leaving me with a lingering sense of longing. I longed for a love that could ignite my soul, a love that would sweep me off my feet and carry me away to a realm where dreams and reality merged. One in the shoulder and one in the chest. The woman's screeching turned into a whimper when Reese fired the shotgun a second time and the spuma half sagged on her. Reese immediately pulled the lifeless beast off of her, said a few words to her that the rain simply washed away before they could reach me, and then rose as if looking for something. When he saw me, he only made a slight movement of his head that told me to follow him and then he had disappeared into a farm road that I hadn't seen before in the rain.

And just a little while later, she could no longer remember saying such a thing. Thank you to everyone who's enjoyed Atlas and Jia's journey. I originally had a different ending, but due to some feedback over the last three months, I've decided I would remove the final portion of the original scene and leave it like this instead. I understand wanting to end a book with a final sense of closure, so enjoy this modified ending. Her voice became quieter. You have already won the first battle. The organisation you knew as Horizon is finished. The Council is gone. The Board has fallen. None of that concerns me. She frowned. "There is more." She turned the page over. Only one sentence remained. If you truly wish to end this story... come alone. Below it was an address. Not the island. Not another office. An old lighthouse on the edge of Tarkwa Bay. And beneath the address... A time. Sunset.

Because there was something on the kitchen table that had not been there yet. A second photo. Fresh. Dry. As if it had just been developed. It showed a place Mara immediately recognized. The island. But she was changed. Greater. Dark. And in the middle of the island there was a huge black tower that it never stood there had given. On the back stood in elegant handwriting: Come tomorrow at sunset. Or Nora dies a second time.

“You are sure? After everything she put us through she just… ended it?” “Yeah. She left a note. Said she had nothing left. We will send the full report but you and your wife can finally close this chapter.” Isabel clutched the counter and let out a shaky breath. “I cannot believe it is really over. I have been having nightmares about her every night. The therapy sessions are helping but it is still so scary.” Isaac hung up and pulled her into his arms. “It is over baby. She is gone for good. No more looking over our shoulders.”
