**Story 15: Shadow Boardroom** **Chapter 5** Isabella stood outside the nondescript café on the edge of the city, the modified USB drive burning a hole in her coat pocket. Her hands were steady, but her heart raced with a mixture of fear and dark exhilaration. This was the final act of betrayal against her original employers. After this, there would be no going back. She spotted her handler — a nondescript man in a gray suit — sitting at a corner table. She walked over, sat down, and slid the USB across the table under a napkin.

⸻ 😨 ⸻ 🌙 The Horrifying Discovery Ilyaan stared at the pages. Then his heart stopped. ⸻ Because the final pages were blank. ⸻ Completely blank. ⸻ No ending. ⸻ No future. ⸻ Nothing. ⸻ The woman closed the book. ⸻ Then whispered: ⸻ “That’s why I called you here.” ⸻ Silence. ⸻ “Your story no longer has an ending.” ⸻ The universe trembled. ⚡ ⸻ The Witness stood motionless.

“No other may choose for her.” “And if she’s not ready?” I asked, my voice barely steady. The shadow turned toward me again. “Then the book will remain closed,” it said. The shadow began to fade, breaking apart into tiny lights that drifted upward. Before it disappeared completely, it spoke one final time…“When the earth accepts her, the book will open.” And then it was gone. The cave returned to normal, the light stabilized and T he air felt warm again. Ms. Joyce let out a slow breath.

“That data was locked.” “She unlocked it,” I said. “You taught her how.” He stared at me like he wanted to reach through the screen. “You did this,” he said. “No,” I replied. “I finished it.” The feed cut suddenly. Isabella’s fingers flew over the keys. “She shut it down herself.” I stood up. “Where is she now?” I asked. “Unknown,” Isabella said. “She ditched the tail.” Daniel stood too. His calmness was gone now. Fully gone, in fact.

The whole field was becoming a huge book, writing itself beneath their feet. “We have to find the real Gabe,” June said. She grabbed Dante’s hand. His grip was weak, but she squeezed harder. “If his name’s on the list of the dead, there’s got to be a way back. This book is alive. It listens to us—our blood, our work.” “You can’t change what’s already been eaten,” the shadow hissed, lunging. Smoky hands reached for June’s book. “Run!” June yelled. They tore across the field, but nothing felt solid. Each step crumpled the paper ground beneath them. Huge black letters appeared at their feet: THE END OF THE AVERY FAMILY.

I pulled back a little, taking a few paces backward, "Does your dear husband know about me? Does he know you have a stepbrother who almost ended his life for you?" Her face went pale. I smiled wider. “No? You never told him about that night? You left out every part of your life that had me in it, didn’t you?” When I was satisfied with the distance I had put between us, I stood, putting my hands in my joggers' pockets. Dear, predictable Shannon tried to make a run for it. I knew her better than anyone else. And that's why all the doors were securely locked. "There is no escaping me today, Shannon." I tilted my head slowly, "If I were you, I would drop the act and face my demons. Face me."

I mean she’s not been out of his sight for twenty four hours yet and he’s already calling asking her what she’s doing. Daniel really needs to loosen his grip a little, and let Sierra enjoy her last few weeks as a single woman. By the time we pull up to the black fence of Avery’s house the sun was beginning to set on the horizon and I must say the sunsets are much prettier on the island. The driver pulls up to the gate and hits the button on the speaker box and a man with rough foreign accent barks and the speaker hisses and we cover our ears from the horrid sound.

“We’re rewriting the ending, Isabella.” Tears stung her eyes. “Then we’ll need a better pen.” Michael’s voice echoed from the hallway. “Then sharpen your faith. Ravenmoor is no sanctuary. It’s a graveyard.” Isabella nodded. “Then let’s raise the dead.” And with that, This Chapter closed not on a whisper—but on a war cry.

I heard as I felt something pierce my heart and blood gushed out of my mouth immediately, slowly I begin to lower to the ground "Kitten….!"
