It seemed like forever, but I finally opened my eyes. It was a blur until I focused on the bright light above me. Was this the light that brought me back?

Lila's P.O.V The darkness in the crypt was absolute, a suffocating blanket that pressed against my skin like the weight of all the Blackwood secrets buried here. My flashlight beam sliced through it, casting erratic shadows on the stone walls etched with names of ancestors long gone—generations who had fought their own battles against curses and betrayals. Serena's face emerged in the dim light, pale and drawn, her eyes wide with a fear that mirrored my own. The crash from above still echoed in my ears, the tumbling stones sealing the heavy door shut with a finality that made my heart race.

I spoke without turning fully back. “Some things you meet too early,” I said. Then I left. And closed the door behind me. Not locked. Just closed. Because locked doors don’t stop what already knows the way in. Lyra POV (continued) I stayed on the floor. Even after she left. Even after the house went quiet again. I didn’t move. My chest felt heavy. Not just sad. Something deeper. Like something had been taken and I didn’t even get the chance to understand it first.

A book lay open, its pages made of thin sheets of copper. "These are stolen," she hissed, her finger hovering over a line of text. "This is High Elven. This is a treatise on star-navigation. They stole it when they burned the Silver Spires." "They steal everything," Tristan said, moving deeper into the room. "Keep moving. We’re looking for 'Project Apotheosis' or 'The God-Shell'. Look for the Emperor’s seal." They split up, moving down opposite sides of the narrow aisle. Saoirse scanned the spines. The Anatomy of Angels. Void Theory. The Ethics of Soul Fragmentation.

Outside, the ward breathed, humming steady and hard and alive. At the edge of Silverveil’s woods, Ironclaw retreated with wounded pride and borrowed monsters. In the deeper dark, something old and hungry howled once, furious, and went quiet—blinded, blocked, shut out. Inside the salt circle, in a living room that smelled like blood and sage and love, Charlotte Hale blinked her star-spark eyes, sighed, and finally decided sleep was acceptable. Silverveil entered its after.

"With cameras on every corner, Charles won't be able to hide for long. He's bound to be caught any minute now." Olivia had barely hung up when a loud knock rattled my door. I did not bother opening it. Instead, I peered through the digital peephole and saw the unmistakable silhouette. "Charles, I can see you out there. Don't mess up again. Turn yourself in, and maybe you can get a second chance," I called out. The knocking grew fiercer as Charles heard me. He was cursing up a storm, but I tuned him out, still pushing for him to give up.

Elaine took a refreshing bath and slipped into clean pajamas, but her respite was short-lived. Stephen's arms ensnared her once more, his kisses reigniting with an intense heat. It was a long while before their fervor subsided. Feeling drained and sticky with sweat, Elaine was too weary and drowsy to consider another shower. She sat in a daze, her feet still not touching the floor. Suddenly, someone caught her wrist. A deep, chilling voice cut through the silence. "Where do you think you're going?"
