Everything stops! Silence.

The silence came like a held breath, silver noticed it when she woke. She lay still beneath the furs, eyes open, waiting for the familiar brush of sound along the edges of her thoughts. The whispers had become a constant companion over the past weeks, unwelcome but predictable. They curled through her mind at odd hours, pressed into her insecurities, named her fractures with cruel intimacy. This morning, there was nothing, no murmur or presence. Her chest tightened. She sat up slowly, pressing two fingers to her temple as if she could coax the sound back. The quiet stretched, deep and unnatural, like a forest emptied of birds, it was too still.

~Wren~ It’s not the darkness that will drive me mad, but the silence. The complete void of noise that is so quiet that it’s deafening. My ears ring as I strain to hear anything I can, yet… nothing comes. No one comes. Just like no one stepped up to help me.

A distant rumble shook the heavens. The crack above the city widened slightly. Everyone looked up. The darkness beyond reality was moving. Watching. Waiting. The First Silence. Nova felt it immediately. Not fear. Not anger. Curiosity. The First Silence was observing. Learning. Like it always had. The Third Silence noticed too. His expression hardened. "He's here." The First Memory nodded. "Yes." The city grew brighter. Silver light flooded the horizon. Then the world became quiet. Perfectly quiet. Every sound vanished.

Seren only went quiet when she was holding the weight of too many futures at once. I stayed half a step behind her, eyes sweeping the undergrowth, ears tuned for anything that did not belong. Without the Thread, instincts felt sharper, less filtered. Every snapped twig sounded like a decision being made somewhere far away. Silas brought up the rear. “You feel it too,” he muttered to me. “Yes,” I said. “The world is louder.” “No,” he corrected. “The world is unmuted.” We crossed a narrow stream just as the sky began to pale. Dawn crept in slowly, cautious, as if unsure it was still welcome. Mist clung to the water, curling around our boots.

Only the calm of a storm that knows its strength. Then, softer, but no less deadly: “Whisper again, and I’ll turn your murmurs into your graves.” The silence that followed wasn’t brittle anymore. It was bent, forced under her weight. Even Silas didn’t speak. The chamber did not snap back to quiet so much as it folded — like a giant leaf closing on itself, the sound of wings and breath muted under the weight of something enormous and final. At first came the smallest noises: a throat cleared, a chair scraping as someone adjusted position to listen harder. Then, like a tide catching on a cliff, reactions spilled out.

The echo of the forest’s rage lingered — trees clawing at me, the earth splitting, the wind shrieking. Within the blink of an eye, silence draped itself over everything — A heavy, dead silence. Its wifht pressed down even much more, draining life our of me. But with every passing moment that life slips out of me, it feeds this dead silence like a zombie feeds on brains. And so, this silent wasn't dead anymore. It now had a pulse. I might still be a subject to delusion because it felt like this silence had a voice too. I heard a faint hum rolled through the emptiness until suddenly a flicker of light exploded through the air.

The room was steeped in silence, the kind that pressed against her ears and made her chest feel heavy. Samantha lay there, her eyes locked on the stark white ceiling. It loomed above her like a canvas begging for answers she couldn’t give. The darkness around her seemed alive, creeping into the edges of her thoughts, amplifying her confusion.

He saw the grey mist of potential accidents drifting like smoke through the air. The world had always been loud to his eyes. A constant, screaming feed of data and danger. But tonight... there was nothing. Just plaster. Just white paint peeling slightly in the corner. Just shadow. It was quiet. Too quiet. Cale squeezed his eyes shut, pressing the heels of his hands into his sockets until sparks of phosphene exploded behind his eyelids. Focus, he commanded his brain. Find the line. Find the weakness. He opened his eyes. Nothing. Just the static of a dead channel. Grey, fuzzy, empty air.
