Instead, he lit a cigarette. Hunter hadn't been able to answer his questions, but that didn't mean Grayson left empty-handed. Getting those drawings from Hunter was a good outcome, regardless. At the very least, Grayson could examine them. Before he could finish his cigarette, he received a call from Simon. "You had me treat a psycho today, Grayson. The guy behaved like a classic rich kid, all obnoxious and ignorant … " Simon argued. He clearly had had a bad experience. "Is he sick?" Grayson asked.

"In my line of work, being prepared is essential." Drake's mind raced as he tried to piece together the puzzle. Simon's quiet demeanor, his hidden mansion, and now this extensive collection of weaponry—it was clear that there was much more to Simon than met the eye. "What kind of work are you involved in?" Drake ventured to ask, his curiosity getting the best of him. Simon's gaze held a sense of gravity as he met Drake's eyes. "Let's just say that I'm connected to a world that operates in the shadows," he replied, his tone measured. "A world where power, influence, and wealth often come at a high price."

Simon instructed. “Sure, that is if you don’t change your mind.” Steve responded over the phone. Simon smiled, his eyes filled with determination, as he responded, “I won't. Let's get the ball rolling."

“You’d do it for me.” Simon turned to me again, brushing a hand down my arm. “Do you think I can keep it together at the Summit tomorrow?” I looked into his eyes, into the flicker of green and silver that still lingered. “I think we’re going to shake the world, Simon,” I said. “One heartbeat at a time.”

“And what exactly is your life?” Simon smiled then but it wasn’t warm. “Influence. Leverage. Outcomes,” he said. “I don’t chase people. I place them.” Vivienne bristled. “I’m not something you place.” “No,” he agreed calmly. “You’re something people underestimate. That’s why you’re here.” That stopped her. He moved past her, gesturing toward the couch. “Sit.” She didn’t like the command. She obeyed anyway. Simon remained standing, hands in his pockets, looking down at her like a man considering an investment.

His assertive demeanor defeated Simon's arrogance. “What do you know about Britt?” Simon asked.

He got none from Luke, though. “Are you saying this based on what you think it should be, or you are only trying to prevent your mate from being blacklisted by the other territories?” Simon had his eyes narrowed when he asked him that, making him feel he was at the edge of an interview of some sort. It was kind of hard for him to even think through the question at the moment but he knew which to pick. “Trust me, it’s because I think it should be. It wouldn’t be good if we put her in danger when she hasn’t shown signs of being a threat,”
