CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN Dylan’s POV I threw the dice. “Come on, give papa two sixes,” I muttered waiting for it to stop. It rolled and stopped. I counted eagerly, a smile stretched on my face. “That's how you fucking do it,” I whooped. The other players murmured and pushed their money towards me angrily. “You've got to be cheating dude,” a guy said. I grinned. “Come on, don't be a sore loser. Again?”

Meg flipped the dice cup bottom-up and threw the three dice into it. Getting two threes and a five, she said, "That's five points!" "Got it." Frank nodded. "So it doesn't matter what the pairs are—the odd one out is the score, and keep rolling if there are no pairs, right?" Meg nodded. "One glass if you can't get pairs from three rolls, and you can pass on a score you don't like to keep rolling!" Frank smiled. "Then what are you waiting for? Let's get started!"

Mr Baldev cleared his throat. “I thought of a game we should play to have fun. Initially, I wanted us to tell stories, tease, and just laugh, but Sidd suggested we add a game and it was cool with me. As you all can see, there are scrunched papers in this bowl and each contains your names. If you pick a person’s name, you are automatically compelled to do their wish. It’s going to be fun I guess. Let’s begin,” Mr Baldev added.

The first game went well, Luke had a full house – Three cards of one denomination and two of another- He had two Jacks and three sevens. He beat Mr Slevin's straight set - 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, five cards in sequence of any suit. Luke started to feel confident. "Congratulations Luke, you get to fuck Candy. Now let's see if you can win the money too or if I get to win the money and fuck your beautiful wife."

First there were the dice. Ilyria took a seat at the small round games table. She stared at the chair opposite, imagining her father there. The two Zaroyu dice were carved from bone and had multiple, irregularly shaped sides. They looked identical but she knew they were not. She started to roll them one at a time, tracking the numbers. She had to be quick, or she would miss the moment when they switched. And she would only know they had switched if she had worked out the sequence each was using. It was a game she learned at her father’s knee. She could almost predict when the switch would happen and stopped rolling as soon as it did. Game over.

Grumbling in anger, John picks up the dice and rolls again. “Two sixes!” Lavi picks up the dice and this time, rolls a five and a six. “Imma gonna win this easily!” John claims as he rolls again. Anna shivers as another gust of breeze flows by. “Two two’s!” John exclaims angrily. “How-” Lavi calmly rolls the dice. “Two sixes,” he says with a smirk. John is now outraged. The game is at a tie which is impossible because the dice are rigged in his favor. He is using a dice which always rolls either a five or a six. This is the first time he rolled a two!

“Perhaps next time, we can all have dinner together. I enjoy company that keeps things... interesting.” Dream’s jaw flexed. Without looking at him, he pulled out the chair beside me and sat down. The sound of the chair scraping the floor echoed too loudly in the silence. My pulse jumped. The system buzzed again. [Mission paused. New objective: Survive.] Dream folded his hands on the table, his eyes cutting toward Xiao with that quiet, lethal calm. “I insist,” he said smoothly, his gaze never leaving me, “let’s make it interesting.” And just like that, I knew…the real game had begun.

Swiftly, the staff member placed the chips in front of Marion. "Sir, have you played Big or Small before?" "No, I haven't." "It's quite simple. You just bet on either Big or Small and place your chips accordingly." Debra chimed in, "So how do you determine what's Big and what's Small?" "You see these three dice? If the total points rolled are 11 or above, it's Big. If it's ten or below, it's Small."
