Paintings lined the walls—bold strokes, dark themes, faces half-hidden in shadow.
“This one’s creepy,” Diane said, pointing.
“It’s about restraint,” Lucian replied. “About things left unsaid.”
My chest tightened.
I moved to the next painting quickly, pretending to read the description. My reflection stared back at me faintly through the glass—scarf, tense eyes, someone who looked older than she felt.
“Olivia.”
I turned.
Lucian stood a few steps away, voice low but careful. Diane was distracted on the other side of the room.
