I slowly looked around the compound. The building was still dark. I took a step backward. Then I heard something behind me. "Ria." I stopped. I knew that voice. There was no way I could have forgotten it. I turned around slowly. Devil stood a few feet away. His shirt was still stained with blood from the bullet I had put in him. His face was pale, but he was standing as if nothing had happened. For several seconds, neither of us spoke. I couldn't move. I had watched him bleed.

Astrid snarled at seeing our mate in such a state. I assessed the room. Victoria and Bonnie shackled to the wall, Violet lying crying in a make-shift alter with an opening above her. The moon spilled down, lighting up her features like she was glowing—the evil-looking man towering over Devon. I saw Devon's hands had bandages on them like his hands had been cut. Bonnies had the same. Next to Violet was a pot. Different bowls of blood sat beside it. He needed to mix them for the spell if I knocked the blood. I could buy us enough time to...
