The light carved him into shadow and steel. He didn’t turn when he spoke. “It wasn’t supposed to rise yet.” Kaelira swallowed. “The Black Moon.” He nodded once. “Every hundred years. Mom looked at me with sadness in her eyes and I wondered if there was something she was trying to hide from me. This was what most people did: judge someone by how they look.
