Andrew had tried to get my skeleton back to the neurosurgical department, but unfortunately, since it was a specified donation, it couldn't be changed. I didn't particularly care—it was a donation, so it didn't matter where it was placed. Yves did not think so. He disinfected the spot that he had prepared for my skeleton at least eight times. It was weird; I'd never thought that I would be able to see my entire skeleton.

"Bold. The moon's pull must be fierce tonight." He circled me slowly, like a shark inspecting potential prey. His dark eyes raked over the pelt, lingering on the bare skin of my shoulder and the curve of my legs where the fur had slipped. It felt like he was stripping me with his gaze, assessing my value not as a person, but as breeding stock. Or a meal. "She looks soft," the man sneered, stepping closer. "Will she survive the change? Or will she break when the bone-song starts?"

It was a solid column of kinetic energy, drilling into the spot where the knife, the book, and the bead lay. It wasn't just light. It was matter. Barzil watched, his jaw muscles bunching tight enough to ache, as the light began to weave. It started with the skeleton. A skull formed from white fire. Then a spine, vertebrae by vertebrae, clicking into place with a sound like snapping dry wood. Ribs curled outward from the sternum, knitting together in a fast-forward biological horror. Barzil’s stomach turned over. Bile rose in his throat, acidic and hot. He swallowed it back down.

Even if I had to, I'd drag someone down with me. A rusty axe lay in the corner of the cabin, left behind after chopping firewood. Without hesitation, I grabbed it and swung at the lock. A loud clang echoed across the entire pack's territory, sending birds scattering from the rooftops. After a dozen swings, my arms burned with pain. The lock finally snapped. I shoved the door open and bolted. Under the moonlight, my skin gleamed an eerie violet. Clearly, the wolfsbane had seeped into my bones.

“You both will probably want to sit. This is going to be a strong and very focused spell. It’s probably gonna get a little wild.” Tiago and Leo exchanged a worried glance but followed her suggestion. It didn’t ease the tension Leo was feeling. I could sense both him and his wolf growing restless. My own fear simmered just below the surface, but I closed my eyes and breathed deeply to calm myself. Sinthy pulled out a small leather pouch closed with a drawstring. She lifted it so I could see it clearly. “These are Casting Bones, kind of like Fortune Stones.” The blank expression on my face must have shown more than I thought. Sinthy sighed. “Fortune stones? For telling the future?”

Becky picked up the small bowl and examined it. “I think this was once a shell of some sort. Like a mussel or oyster shell, but look at the size of it. It must have been old when they harvested this.” Gemma set the twig on the desktop and then pulled the book out. For its size, the book was thick. A little larger than a man’s hand, and perhaps as thick as three of Gemma’s fingers. They did not make the book from paper, but the pages were much thicker. “Is this skin? I hope it's sheepskin and not human.” The cover was clearly leather, and the binding showed hand stitching. “This can’t be new. I’m afraid to open it. What if it’s not the grimoire?”

Larissa scoffed coldly, "The skull has 29 bones, but you couldn't even get that right and made a skull with 30 bones. What do you think you're making, an alien skeleton?" The senior blushed. "O-Of course, I know that! You just mixed up all the bones after you kicked them loose!" She'd gotten the measurements wrong and couldn't piece the bones together at the start. Thus, she figured she'd fixed the problem by adding a tiny bone somewhere deep underneath. How did a freshman notice such a small bone in such an unnoticeable place? One of the braver freshmen walked up to count the bones. "One, two, three … There really are 30 bones! There's an extra piece in there!"

The cold stone pressed against my skin, but it was nothing compared to the fire coursing through my bones. At first, it felt like pins and needles—annoying but manageable. Then, the pins turned into jagged knives, stabbing deeper and deeper. My entire skeleton seemed to be alive, cracking and shifting in ways that no human body should ever endure. I clenched my teeth, refusing to scream, but a low growl escaped my throat as every bone screamed in agony.

Daniel looked at him. "The spines," Adrian said. "The colours and the sizes — they are not the same register as the structural concrete and the glass. But they are both the honest showing of what is inside. The building showing its structural bones. The books show the intellectual bones of the collection." He paused. "They have the same kind of honesty." Daniel looked at the shelves. He thought about the bones room as the room that showed what held things up — the structural and the intellectual simultaneously, the concrete column and the book spine, both forms of the honest bones.

Crack crack! The skeleton broke his four ribs in a row. As if he was not satisfied with this, he broke off another piece of his crotch bones. Seeing this, Jessica could not help but feel waves of pain. Before Caspian could get closer, the skeleton murmured and threw away the broken bones in his hand. In an instant, the broken bones disappeared in the air. "Huh?" Jessica was stunned. The next moment, she saw white bone spears appear in front of the skeleton.
