Tears streamed down my face as I felt the edges of my sanity fraying, slipping away. With a trembling voice, I begged him to stop, but it only seemed to spur him on. His hands fumbled at the knot of my robe, and I tried desperately to hold it closed, clutching it with shaking fingers. But then came the slap—a brutal, thunderous hit across my face. My head snapped to the side, my vision blurred with shock and pain. The metallic taste of blood filled my mouth, and my grip on the robe faltered.

My eyes, still heavily doused with sleep, fail to register her approach, and I'm caught off guard. Before I can react, she slaps me hard across the face. The slap reechoes in my ears, my neck twisting to the side from its impact. I wince in pain, squeezing my eyes shut as a wave of agony washes over me. Pain shoots through every part of my head, and I work my jaw, suspecting a dislocation.

The slap had been a release, a manifestation of the frustration and hurt that had been building within me since the moment she reentered my life. I walk nearest and incline my head in a bow, keeping my head bent. "Look at me" She commands and I lift my face slowly. 'WHAM!' The slap resounds in my ear and the house rattles, or maybe that is just my brain, my vision turns to dots and stars and I swoon, unable to keep my footing, laughter erupts among the group and my heart constricts in pain, the slap stinging my cheek and I bite my cheek to keep from crying, tears line my eyelids.
