Nikolai is a god among men, and I am fortunate to be embraced by his presence. Nikolai’s tattoos are sexy, and I find myself unable to resist tracing them with my finger. The stars inked on both his shoulders catch my attention, making me curious about their meaning. However, it’s the eagle tattooed on his chest that truly captivates me. I really did not want to feel weak ever again. My parents totally thought I was crazy when I decided to get a few tattoos. I had a big one slung over my shoulder that reached down to my bicep—our crew's tribal symbol. I also had another large one on my back and a warrior symbol on my inner bicep, courtesy of Gaspar. “We will be fine. We probably just need the right people in our lives… and get rid of this itch on my back.” I frowned as she hesitated before turning her back to me, wordlessly asking me to scratch her back for her. I couldn’t help but smile as I slowly unzipped her dress, taking in the flawlessness of her back and the tiny tattoo that was there right at the middle of her lower back. It was clearly an infinity sign, with a tiny drawing of the moon on each side of the loops. Extremely identical to the earrings and necklace I gave her. I opened my eyes to ask her when she got a tattoo.

He whispered back. He smiled again, and my hand flew to my eye again. Thentos took one of the young elves' shields and held in front of my face. I could see the light blue, silver tattoo that started at the corner of my right eye and swirled down in a beautiful, intricate design. It looked like a vine crawling out of my eye down to my cheekbone and the other half over my eye towards the corner of my eyebrow. “Master Blair, see if she’s the person you’ve been looking for all along.” Blair was emotionless as he studied the tattoo on the woman’s back. He finally spoke after a long moment of silence. “No.” The tattoo on the woman’s back was the same as Liv’s, but the color was different. Blair remembered distinctly that the peach blossoms on Liv’s tattoo were pink and lifelike. He had never seen a tattoo that exquisite and perfect. Dick looked at Blair in shock. “Are you sure?” Blair nodded. Other than the tattoo being the wrong color, although Liv was blindfolded that night, he knew she was not blonde.

She knows the piece well. It’s a beautiful peacock-like bird, but it was orange and red, a phoenix. There are lilies trailing behind it in a sweeping line across her back, each with a name cleverly hidden in the stamens. Her tattoo sleeves look like smoke is rising from between her fingers and curling around her arms and up to and around her shoulders. The tattoos on her arms meet up with the back piece, connecting it all together. She’s had this tattoo for years, unaware of the irony.

I need a new tattoo, a little bird next. When I open my eyes again, harper is looking at me with concern. “Come to me, my little bird,” I say quietly, urging her to hear me.
