Tears dropped from my eyes from the aching, the saltiness stinging me.
I used my hands to push myself up off the ground, trying not to succumb to the pain. The two of them were standing off, hissing at each other, in fighting positions, circling as if in a boxing match. I watched as he made the first move and tried to slash her with his own claws, but she dodged the attack, opened her mouth, and bit his front right paw instead, pulling the digits clean off him, and spitting them into the water. A stream of blood covered the snow, but he continued fighting as if she hadn’t just mutilated him.
