So Long Summer Novels & Stories

I steered the conversation away, my mood slightly subdued. Summer’s expression shifted at the mention of Ignatz, her eyes showing hesitation. "Come on, we’re best friends. There shouldn't be any secrets between us, right?” I nudged her, a bit irritated but mostly just showing concern for her love life. "I’m not sure about my feelings for Ignatz. I like him, but I'm not entirely sure if it's in a romantic sense." Summer’s previous heartbreak with Claude had made her cautious, understandably so. Despite her composed exterior, that experience had deeply affected her.

Summer sat cross-legged on her bed as she read Saul's message. "Are you done with everything? I want to meet up and discuss some details." "In two more days," Summer replied. "Sounds good. Let me know when you confirm the time," Saul responded. "Okay." Summer stretched herself lazily. She ignored the messages from Anthony and tossed her phone to the side. "Phoebe, it's really late. I'm getting sleepy. Can I skip packing? It's just a two-day and one-night trip." Phoebe chuckled and said, "I'm already done. Ms. Hartford, get some rest. I won't disturb you anymore."

Thankfully there's a game on, and Rob gets sucked into it. I take a blanket out to the small balcony and curl up in a chair to watch the small section of the gulf coast off in the distance. I love the smell of the ocean. It smells like home and memories of the coast of Myrtle Beach, of beach days with my friends and family. Days at the oceanfront arcade hanging as a teen and riding on the back of Brodie's motorcycle to the inlet. Boat rides down the waterway to spend the day partying on bird island. Brodie is in so many memories. We were always together, and everyone thought it would always be that way, including me.

♤♤JAKE’S POV♤♤ “I miss you, though. How’re you doing?” she asked. “Fine,” Keith replied. “How about you? It’s boring here without you.” “I’m okay. I’ll be back home for Thanksgiving and Christmas.” “I hope so. Is college hard?” Summer let out a sigh. “So far? It’s been… okay. My lectures start tomorrow. How’s eight grade?” “Aside Mrs. Langford, it’s fine. Guess what? Owen finally has a girlfriend—”

"Derek, perhaps our relationship has been a mistake from the start. I won't love you anymore, and I'm no longer waiting for you. I'd rather not see you anymore for the rest of my life." Since then, I got rid of everything I had related to Derek. Some time later, I experienced the first spring ever since I became single again. I resented Derek a lot. At the same time, I had sworn not to fall back to my old pattern and give him another chance.

“I’m sure you and Jessie can get in plenty of beach time over the next few days. Just like old times.” Aiden laughed, for the first time that morning feeling carefree and in her element, elated at the sheer luck of the timing. All of them, Jessie, Mitch, herself, and some other long time friends had practically made a career out of life by the shore, taking full advantage of Adelaide’s cottage being right on the water with its own private little stretch of beach, and grateful for every moment. It could prove all too easy to fall back into that breezy rhythm. “Keep talking like that and I might have to extend this trip into the whole summer.”

“Are you interested in some props for the Last Day of Summer Fest? We offer free juice and photos on the side.” “When is the day?" “Pardon?” Valentina looked over at her like she was staring at a grade two child. “When is the fest?” Colleen had no idea so she looked to Tobias for help and thankfully, he answered. “21st of this month. A few superstars like Johnny Crane, and Naomi Statham will be in attendance. I would recommend you get a summer hat for the occasion but unfortunately, we’re sold out. So, how about a tee shirt?”

she replies, smiling. Oh, wow, that went better than I thought it would, “Promise? You aren’t just saying that?” I question, “Promise. We are on the same page.” She answers. I instantly relaxed, knowing we were thinking the same, for now, but there was a chance my recent thoughts would reappear, but I will just continue to fight them for the rest of our time because after the summer, we go back to our lives and possibly not see each other. “What do you want to do today?” I ask, “Or do you want to write some more?” I added.

And he's one of the two childhood friends. "Luca!" She calls out his name and clinging to his neck. "It's been a long time since I last saw you so don't be such a bully!" Letting go of him, she crossed her arm around her chest as I said. It's been a year since she last saw him when he returned to our hometown last holiday. He's also a student from Acadia. Due to his schedule, they really don't have time to talk much after he turned 18 and moved in here.
