"How old is he?"
Emma took the phone back. "Forty-two."
Sofia's face moved through several expressions in quick succession, surprise, calculation, something that looked almost like concern, and then something else that settled slowly into a different shape entirely.
"Are you happy?" she asked.
Emma looked away, she didn't hesitate for a moment.
"Yes," she said.
Sofia nodded once, the way people do when they've made a decision.
"Then I'm in your corner." She turned back to her desk. "But you're going to have to tell me everything, because I have been on this campus for 3 days and the most romantic thing I've witnessed so far is two sophomores arguing over a vending machine."
