Chapter One -- The Fall Sofia moved quietly around the house, humming to herself, and setting the dining-table. “Perfect.” She mumbled as she lit up a little candle in the middle. The smell of roasted chicken and fresh vegetables filled the air. “I pray this work.” Sofia said, hoping this would help her mate, Damien, out of his distant moods. Several attempts had failed as she tried to him to pass a moment with her, had rendered her sad yet she could not resist the temptation of a quiet intimate dinner to-night. Maybe to-night that would be different. Maybe tonight would end well, revive their mate bond and maybe… the dull and fading mate mark on her neck would be brought back to life.

Valentina had stayed up all night making paper flowers. “I remember looking at both of you and thinking I was the luckiest man alive,” Luca said quietly. “I still think that. Even now.” Valentina’s memory was quieter. It was the night Sofia had her first heartbreak at sixteen. She had cried for hours. Luca had made hot chocolate. Valentina had sat on the bed with her, braiding her hair and telling stupid jokes until Sofia laughed through her tears. Luca had checked on them every hour, bringing more tissues and snacks.

I concluded. Dr. Kent’s smile didn’t waver. In fact, it grew wider and more dangerous. “You don’t have to be so formal, Sofia. There’s no need to be so cold, we’re not strangers.” He stood up, walking over to the other side to get closer to me. “I can help you, if you’d like. A woman like you… You deserve to be treated properly, don’t you think? A little recognition for your efforts, maybe a little reward.” He said leaning onto me. I could feel his old man smell all over me .

Luca: Did you have fun? As soon as I sent in the text, I started to massage my forehead a little. Sofia had asked me if she could go out with her friend last night and of course I did agree instantly, making her promise to leave me texts about all what they end up doing. Sofia, being the ever generous person that she was, had decided to send me some pictures of herself which Kayla had taken of her, and my mouth had gone dry as soon as I had set my eyes on the loaded pictures.

I don't want to be with him. Not with you and not with anyone else," she replied angrily.

Prolouge. One and a half years earlier. The dinner in Spain. Sofia was on the opposite side of the room, while Vincenzo secretly admired her beauty. It had been two hours, not the Sofia caught Vincenzo attention without her even knowing. Her smile alone was so alluring, and Vincenzo wanted to be the reason she smiled every day, but he was afraid of what she would think of him. For the first time in his life her was afraid, afraid of her opinion of him, afraid of if she would even like him, just afraid.

" My phone buzzed. Sofia: Can you come upstairs? I finished the first draft. I want you to be the first person who reads it. I stood, and Damiano looked at me, and I showed him the message. "Go," he said, warm and unhurried. "I'll be here." I went upstairs, and Sofia opened her door before I knocked, and handed me the notebook with both hands, the way you handed someone something that had come from inside you and that you were finally ready to share. I sat on the window seat and began to read. And the story she had written was extraordinary.

Sofia turns quickly to face Alex, their gazes meeting. With delicacy, Alex put his hand on Sofia’s cheek and, smiling, said, “I don’t care. In the end, you are as perverted as I am. Come give me a kiss.” Sofia wiped her tears with the thick sleeve of her sweater and approached Alex. She then began to him. Alex, after a second, Alex put his tongue in Sofia’s mouth, moving it in a circular way. Until Sofia pushed him and told him as his face turned red as a tomato

The pen hovered after the words. I imagined the chain reaction: Nicholas discovering the truth, taking control of Carl’s treatment, maybe saving him, but at the cost of my own autonomy. I tore the page out and stuffed it in the bottom drawer with the others. Morning broke with a brittle pink sky. Sofia woke first, rubbing her eyes, still half in a dream. “Is the Alpha King coming back?” she asked. “No,” I said gently. “Not today.” She pouted. “He was nice.”

Martinez replied, there was warmth and yearning in his eyes. “F*ck the mate bond between you and that fool, f×ck everything that prevents us from being together” Sofia found the vulgar cussing a little frequent, but she had done worse while with Celine. Sofia wanted to say, 'you wouldn't say the same once you learn that I'm after the Alpha title. I could be your Luna, but that isn't my dream or priority. I love you but still yearn to be the Alpha'.
