My throat suddenly felt dry. "Hi." My voice came out softer than usual. It barely sounded like me. "I need your help."

I squeeze harder. “Where. Is. She?” He was grunting and turning purple, but he still wouldn't beg. I knew he wouldn’t but I’d be grateful if he just dropped dead—but that would be too easy. Too quick. Then I heard it. “Put him down.” The voice is Soft. Low. Not a threat. Not a plea. But enough to freeze me where I stand. I let him go. He crumples, gasping and coughing, but I don’t look at him anymore.

Quiet. Certain. ⸻ “…I like that better.” ⸻ They stayed on the phone longer than usual. Nobody wanted to hang up. Eventually— he quietly said— “You should sleep.” She smiled. “…you first.” His laugh. Then— “Annoying.” Silence. Then— very softly— his voice. Warm. Gentle. Not overwhelming. Just real. ⸻ “…goodnight.” Pause. “…I love you.” Her chest softened.

“Hello, Katrina.” The sound of her voice made my whole body lock up. It wasn’t just wrong—it was wrong in the worst way. It wasn’t sharp or cruel, but it wasn’t my mum’s voice either. My mum’s voice was soft and warm, like sunlight through the trees, like the hum of a lullaby in the middle of a stormy night. This voice was smooth, steady, but it didn’t wrap around me like hers. It didn’t carry the comfort I had known all my life.

I hold onto where I stand praying he wouldn’t take my life away. He is used to killing people without a valid reason and with the way he sounds, I am sure he has a reason to kill me.

Mandy's voice was light, almost inaudible. “Hmm” “Can you fuck me?”

Not quiet, soft, the way certain expensive fabrics were soft, with a density underneath the surface that you only felt when you pressed. Unhurried. The voice of a man who had decided long ago that urgency was a thing other people performed and he had no use for it. "I appreciate you taking my call." I said nothing.

His voice was icy and devoid of warmth. He then turned to Noelle, and his tone softened remarkably. "You're back home?" His voice was so gentle it gave everyone goosebumps.

She muttered shyly but he only offered her a smile. “It's okay, it's my fault. I was too busy on my phone” He said with a deep baritone voice. “That's kind of contrasting,” Sophie thought. His face looks so cute and boyish compared to his voice. He is like a piece of chocolate cake. It tasted good but the pleasure might take your soul.

The sound of his deep voice almost melted completely into the quiet of the night. “You have a really sexy voice, you know that?" I murmured, a faint, breathless laugh escaping my lips. “But my palm is still freezing. Why is that?” I flexed my fingers in the empty air. “Put your face here. Bring it close to me. Like this.”
