Something that was beginning— to see.

Because the end of one thing was always, if you were paying attention, the beginning of something else. The legal instrument was done. The life was here. The thirteenth watercolor was blank. I picked up the brush. I began.

I say. And this time, it feels like a beginning instead of an ending.

"The endgame..." "...starts now."

I save you, only to lose myself. But all endings are also beginnings.
