Something Ends Something Begins Novels & Stories

Not because I’m forcing them. Because something is reacting to them. To the idea of them. To what they represent. Connection. Continuation. “Define beginning,” it says. The question catches me off guard. Because it’s not a rejection. It’s a request. “A beginning is…” I hesitate. Because how do you explain something so simple— In a place where it’s never existed? “It’s when something starts,” I say. “Start implies prior absence.” “Yes.” “Absence is termination.” “No,” I counter. “Absence is just… before.”

I started to put everything in place and started washing the dishes. The rest of the night went with us talking about my new mysterious boss, drinking wine, and eating cupcakes.

This was just the beginning. The End.

Or maybe the beginning of something else entirely. Either way… I was done waiting. ---
