Her fingers were long and bare, no rings, no polish, just a silver watch and a thin stack of papers beside her untouched coffee. I took the seat across from her without introducing myself. She gave a small nod. “Juliana.” I nodded back. My throat felt dry, so I took a sip of the water they had brought for me.
