I pushed my food around my plate, barely listening until my father cleared his throat.
“So,” he began, his voice calm but laced with tension, “I assume you’ve heard the news about Liam Brighmore’s engagement.”
My fork clattered against my plate. Of course, he’d bring it up.
“Yes,” I said shortly, not looking up.
He leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable. “Sophia Davenport. A fine choice. Elegant, well-connected, and scandal-free. A match that makes sense.”
I clenched my fists under the table, my nails digging into my palms. “Glad to know you approve,” I muttered.
