Betrayed In The Mafia's Bed

Betrayed In The Mafia's Bed

he commanded, his voice dropping into that terrifying, icy professional tone I hadn't heard in weeks. My stomach did a slow, sickening roll. This wasn't a grid failure. Outside, the fireworks were still screaming, huge, earth-shaking booms that rattled the windowpanes. It was the perfect acoustic camouflage. Then came a sound that didn't belong to the celebration. POP. It was tiny. Subtle. Like a lightbulb burning out or a muffled cork. But then something whizzed past my ear, a hot streak of air that ended in a dull thud against the mahogany bookshelf behind us.

The Lycan King’s Treasured Luna

The Lycan King’s Treasured Luna

"Do not end this call." He vanished from view, the screen jolting as it tilted, capturing only fleeting slices of the library's shadow-drenched expanse. Sounds took his place, the scrape of wood legs grating against stone, the hollow rumble of ladders pushed across grooves worn smooth by the years, and the muted thuds of tomes dropped onto long tables. Whispers echoed like a hive stirring at the edge of waking. Pages turned, one after another, the frantic shuffle rising and falling like the rush of wings. The sound alone hollowed my chest.

This is a beautiful story. It goes through the ups and downs of love and shows that just the simple act of showing up at the right time can set your life on a better trajectory. I’d still definitely recommend every reader to brace themselves because your emotions will run rampant, haha ;)

I loved this book and it's characters. I love how there was no unnecessary drama that slowed the pace and didn't make sense like in other stories. And I loved the way that we got to see some of the same scenes from both perspectives. I'd love to read a sequel.

Pregnant with Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance

Pregnant with Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance

I shake my head and move on. Walking to the wall where I saw the picture moving, I feel around. At first, it seems like an ordinary wall. But then, I realize there’s a slight separation between panels. This doesn’t seem right. Looking at the bookshelves close by, I begin to tip books up, looking for the strangest ones first, the most worn ones, the biggest ones. I pull on a book that says, “How to Win at War,” and I hear the creaking noise again.

SINFUL CRAVINGS: A Raw Taboo Erotica Anthology

SINFUL CRAVINGS: A Raw Taboo Erotica Anthology

BOOK 3: CHAPTER 58: Relentless Slap. Smack. Slap. Smack. Slap. Smack. The relentless wet rhythm echoes through the room, reverberating off the walls like a drumbeat summoned from the core of their chaotic lust. The sound of their skin meeting, over and over, bounces wildly in the air, loud and uninhibited, mixing with the guttural gasps and animalistic groans that keep escaping their lips.

Sweet Dreams

Sweet Dreams

I drag the blanket higher, forcing my eyes back down to the book as I push down my fear concentrating on the book on my lap. As I gloss over that One line again still coming up with nothing I sigh about to drop the book when a sound breaks through the silence. It’s soft, subtle and then a click falls into place and immediately dread and anxiety fills my lungs as my body stills before my mind catches up. I lift my head slowly, listening for more sound, hoping I heard that sound wrongly and it was just the wind banging against the window. God! I already had a weird evening…. Please let it be the wind and not some intruder!

Married To The Arrogant Vampire Prince

Married To The Arrogant Vampire Prince

It’s so nice to see that there’s a member of this family who isn’t evil. Chris is so adorable. A loud thud gets my attention, and I flinch when I hear the sound. I look up to see what caused that sound, and nothing- no one’s here. My heart is still beating in my chest because that shit was loud as hell. “Hello?” I say, thinking someone would answer, but no answer; it feels like I’m the only one in here, but then I hear pages turning at a rapid pace. I look down at the book in my lap, but it’s not what’s making that sound. I sit still, and I look around me. I’m not going to see anything sitting, so I get up.

Awakening of the Darkness's Heirs

Awakening of the Darkness's Heirs

"Yes, yes. It's definitely just a mouse. Just relax." However, Raven felt drawn towards the sound. Cautiously, she stepped closer to a bookshelf that looked a little older than the rest. When her hand touched one of the books, she felt something strange-the book seemed to be attached to something. "Guys... look at this," Raven called softly. They all approached, looking at the book curiously. When Raven pulled it, there was a small click, and suddenly, the bookshelf moved slowly, as if opening a secret door.

His Eyes That Pierced Her Heart

His Eyes That Pierced Her Heart

Crystal’s hands were shaking, she dropped the book down, and the book landed with a thud on the carpet. Her eyes were nearly wide, her pupils dilated in shock. It was as if time stopped, and everything suddenly went blank. Not a single sound could be heard, she was literally blank.

Another thing is that normal school textbooks can only be opened manually but this book opens by itself immediately after you're done reading a page, and the page you've just read will go blank if it was read by another person except for the owner of the book. "Oh?" the man could be seen surprised. "That lad is here, Ha-ha… This kid would be surprised today, Hehe. I can't wait to see the expression on his face," the man laughed strangely, humming some strange songs. It could cause a disaster for the music industry if what he was humming is a song. 'Thud, thud, thud' Footsteps could be heard coming from the other side of the room. One was steady and light while the other was unsteady and roug

Then the first crack of thunder hit. BOOM. I jumped so hard the book flew out of my hands. My chest tightened. It sounded exactly like the thunder that night in Cassian’s cabin. The same low rumble, the same sharp snap right after. My breathing picked up fast. Short. I pressed a hand to my throat like that would stop it. “Shit… not now,” I whispered. My voice shook.

Frequently Asked Questions

I remember stumbling upon 'What's That Noise?' during a late-night browsing session, and it instantly caught my attention. This book is a fascinating dive into the world of mysterious sounds, blending science, folklore, and a bit of detective work. The author does an incredible job of breaking down everyday noises—like creaky floors or distant hums—and explores their origins in a way that’s both educational and oddly thrilling. It’s not just about identifying sounds; it’s about rediscovering the world around us.

What really stood out to me was how the book tackles eerie, unexplained phenomena, like the 'Taos Hum' or 'The Bloop,' with a balanced mix of skepticism and wonder. The writing is accessible but never dumbed down, making it perfect for curious minds. Whether you’re a science enthusiast or just someone who’s ever jumped at a strange noise in the night, this book feels like a conversation with a friend who’s equally obsessed with the weird and wonderful.
