Chapter 21 – The Age of Blood Valenfort’s sky bled red, a wound that would never heal. Ash from the Seraphim still clung to the shattered domes of cathedrals, falling like blood-snow in the night wind. This city — once a symbol of balance between human and vampire — now lay in chaos, decay, and despair. Evelyn Cross had vanished. Her silhouette dissolved into the black light of the ritual that sealed Azrael, leaving behind a torn world. But her death was not the end; it was the beginning of a new era where blood became law, and fear the only religion left.

She shrugged, a little awkwardly. I smiled back, wanting to put her at ease. “Thank you, Sie. I really appreciate it.” We flicked through some new books and papers while we waited for the pizza to arrive. They were all much the same – long, winding documentation of vampire sightings from the Victorian era, many of which were clearly allegories for something else, like impudent women or the fear of industrialisation.

Since the internet was probably the easier thing to obtain, she intended to broach the topic of suggesting it be installed with Jasper first thing in the morning. Lying in the dark, she focused on the light that filtered through the small gap between the floor and the bottom of the door. Shadows danced back and forth as vampires moved about. Do they ever sleep? She thought with frustration. The stories all had them as nocturnal beings. From what Jasper had said, most of the stories about the vampires were incorrect. It figured that this would be one of the few that was accurate.

I could feel the dark magic flowing through it and unlike the day I met Arwan and Fen, it felt like a part of me instead of a foreign invader. As if sensing me not knowing where to start or how to find the information I needed, the book pages began to flutter. I watched curiously as the fluttering increased and the pages started rapidly turning before suddenly stopping. It had turned itself to a page filled with an image of a vampire. It looked human, if it hadn't been for the heading, I wouldn't have known what it was. I whispered thanks to book, shaking my head at the notion of talking to it, and eagerly began to read.

Feeling amazed that the Alpha will read something like this, especially knowing that most wolves hate vampires for its history. As Brianna began to slowly crouch and check more, finding other books that are similar to Twilight, like vampire club, vampire moon, and other things, suddenly Brianna felt a sudden wind behind her. ‘A wind?’ she muttered, automatically turning around to find no source as the room had no window. There’s just an old bookcase with a creepy vibe behind her.

I tagged the woman’s photo and Candido’s birth records before moving on to the latest report from the moving teams and the search I’d run about the script in the book about vampires. Nothing had come up for the search, but the move of all of our servers had been complete and they were ready for me to install the new security system. As I waited for the system to install the programs, I opened the book on vampires, squinting at it. The script felt familiar the more I stared at it, but I couldn’t remember where I would have seen it. It wasn’t like any language I read regularly.

I placed the book back on the shelf and continued to scan the titles. ‘Understanding the Order and Hierarchy of Vampires.’ The book wasn't what I was looking for, but it did pique my interest. I stepped down from the stool and blew the dust off the front cover. Oh, shit! I screamed and dropped the book as a spider crawled over the opening page. I watched the spider stroll down the red carpet until it was out of sight and then picked up the book, looking around, half expecting someone to come due to the noise I was making. But when no one did, I continued.

I add. She smiles up at me, “I love you too Troy and I don’t want to leave you either but duty calls.” I sigh, “Can we at least stop fighting and go back to bed.” She laughs, “Troy that wasn’t a fight, I was just giving you space to think and I also did a little digging about Zane’s uh problem.” She takes my hand and leads me to a seat. I frown wondering what exactly she means by digging. “Harper and I went to the library yesterday and found a book on Vladimir, it tells the story of how he became a Vampire annnnd about his four loyal soldiers.” She looks at me to make sure I’m following.
