I hoped the walls were soundproof, as I didn’t want to overhear any funny business between Silas and his girlfriend. Climbing onto my bed, I reached for my bedside drawer, pulling out a large book with thick pages and a brown cover. It was a book on vampire origins, and basically everything one needed to know about them. Bill had gifted it to my mom as a moving-in present, thinking she might need it living with two vampires under the same roof. If only he knew Mom didn’t read books. Even when I was a kid, she’d make up my bedtime stories on the spot. She found it funny to tell me horror stories before bed.

She was not dead. When I saw her crimson eyes, I smelled a familiar scent on her. The scent of blood. My blood. “Elena, thank you. For exchanging your blood with mine. Your blood turned me into a vampire.” Sylvia leaned against Kael’s chest, smiling sweetly. I recalled all the years after our marriage. Every time I lay down in my coffin to sleep, my body always felt unbearably heavy. The cold disgust in Kael’s eyes confirmed my suspicion.

Majority of the vampires agreed and their angry yells of ‘yes’ could be heard. “Two weeks ago, I journeyed to Athens to relay the good news to the Elders, about the Blackburn being alive, but I was disappointed to know that it is no news to them because they knew all this while,” Aamon’s expression darkened now. “The Elders have been keeping things from us for too long. They can never be trusted anymore. I decided to act on my own and with Kyle, I was able to get the witch to speak yesterday. There is a sacred book written by the Fathers of the early church after the time of the witch trials. It talks about a prophecy that will bring an end to our immortality.”

The woman’s arms flailed weakly but her face looked serene, if not enjoying the experience. Then, the woman’s expression slowly changed into pain and she grimaced. She placed her arms around the Ember Ghost’s head weakly before dropping them weakly to her side. Then, the woman’s limp body slid out of view leaving the Ember Ghost standing. He wiped the remaining red stains from his mouth with a swipe of his arm before disappearing within the smoke that blew from across the float.

Serina muttered not long after that. Alexis and Adrian immediately looked straight at Serina with their curious eyes. Serina put the ledger back on the table, then slightly pointed it at Alexis as well as Adrian. “In this book it is said that a human who has pure blood is destined to become a vampire hunter. It is even stated that there are only one in a thousand of vampire hunters in this world. And Alexis, you are that one in a thousand.” Serina started to explain.

She spat, walking out on her sisters, she just can't fathom why they hate the vampires too much, and kid won't let go off their hatred, well she's going to do what needed to be done.
