Jason might be a vampire, ancient and powerful, but in this moment, I had him exactly where I wanted him. “We’re still in the shifters’ territory in Nevada,” he explained. “Since they’ve blocked every road, we’ll have to go on foot across their border to Utah, and then we’ll head north to Idaho.” Utah and Idaho were human territories. Big chasms of thousands of miles separated the western states from their eastern neighbors, like Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. The states on the east side of the chasms were still run by the Federal, though a few states had declared their independence, and many more were going to join them. The Federal had never been so weak since the American Independence Da

said Amos before he turned and went into the barn. "Where am I?" Lauren asked, looking around at lush, green pastures and jagged mountains reaching for the sky. "This is my horse ranch, Jack of Aces." "I meanwhere in the country are we? What state?" "Wyoming, just outside the town of Saddle Creek. You said you're from back east, right? Whereabouts?"

Instead, a very odd thing happened and the three of them moved to give us a way to pass. Taking a deep, calming breath, I walked further into the West territory. Ryker, Dmitry, and Eros were following behind me while the three wolves were on either side of us. Unlike the North or the South, the West looked like it had never been touched by civilization. The houses and buildings looked like they had been there for at least a hundred years and had never been remodeled.

He pointed with his cigar to the red rock walls outside the window. "Used to be a drug route for the Sinaloa Cartel. I took some guys and wiped them out. A lot of people are buried under there… Further west, after the rainy season next month, herds of wild horses will run through." He talked a lot, but it wasn't annoying. Unlike Damian, whose every word was a move on a chessboard, every syllable hiding a calculation or a trap. Jasper was just sharing. Nakedly, unreservedly showing me this cruel yet fascinating desert, showing me his territory.

“It’s true. We are reverse snobs. Any of those ‘new-age’ types who try and gain a foothold in the community have a hard time. Most don’t stick around long. We don’t like change. We like our guns, we like our beef, we like the money from coal and oil. We like to challenge anyone who tries to take it away from us. If you don’t embrace all that is our western way of life…well, we ain’t got time for ya.” Jack tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. “So when Henry asks where we’re going to live after we’re married, you’ll say…?” “We’ll split our time between Colorado and Wyoming for now, but after we start having babies, we’ll settle in Sundance because it’s a good place to raise kids and I hav

"Cooper agrees with him. The family business alliance on the west coast needs a new hand on the throat. They want to make you Governor of the Western Border. Tomorrow." I stop breathing. My pulse thuds once against my collarbone. The Western Border is not just a piece of dirt. It handles one third of the entire Rogue Pack economic blood supply. It holds three major tactical military strongholds and every single trade route leading out to the human shipping ports. "They are handing me that much weight?" I ask. "They expect you to carry it," Leif snaps back. "Do not make them look stupid for picking you. Can you handle the wolves out there, Penelope? They are not like the soft ones inside the

Then he said, “We’re almost finished conquering the eastern zone. Any plans with the southern and western states?” I turned my gaze to the south and west sides of the map. We called them the Meridionalis and Occidentalis. On the map, Meridionalis was mostly the color of sand and mud, as it consisted of the vast lands of deserts. There were no permanent packs there, and it only served as the wolves’ route toward the other pack. On the other hand, the Occidentalis were also abundant in wild and dark forests. But unlike our region, they have more rocky mountain ranges, which served as a frontier and protection against their enemies.

The temperature had barely hit the upper forties today and, with dusk an hour off, it promised to drop. A chill laced the breeze and the scent of snow clung to it. Nate had grown up in the Midwest where all he had to do was blink and the weather shifted, but Wyoming was a whole different level of bipolar.

River's expression turned thoughtful, and he replied, "I'm not certain, but there's a rumor they've fled westward." I raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched on my face. “The west? What the hell is over there?” I asked River, my tone laced with curiosity. River's expression turned enigmatic, and he replied, "Perhaps that's the point… there's nothing. No strategic value, no resources to speak of. It's a barren wasteland."

* Regina * In a month of staying in the Western pack, I found new friends, or rather just a friend. His name is Brent. He is a young warrior of the West. Although I am not interested in making more friends, I accepted him because he is nice to me almost every time, so I couldn't help but be his friend, too.
