Sparrow: A Novel Novels & Stories

“If you can’t give me a proper explanation about this, you’ll be the first to disobey the rules!” “You know full well of the consequences.” Yoana’s tone was as cold as ice, frantically changing the expression of the woman who just barged in. “Something’s wrong, Helm!” replied the woman swiftly. “Purple Sparrow was working undercover as a bunny girl in one of our bars. She was trailing some Islanders, but she ended up taken hostage! “You have to save her, Helm!”

In the distance, the sparrows continued to dip and dance in the air, raining shit down upon the human campsite. “I imagine that there are some very unhappy priests right now,” Sigrid joined him, following his eyes to the dark cloud of birds. “They are fascinating to watch, are they not? Something in how they all move together is truly eery. What do you think goes through their little sparrow minds when Meguitte commands them? Do they think that she is their goddess, commanding their little sparrow lives? Or did they choose her, for some mysterious reason known only to sparrows, and they volunteer to do as she commands? Do they feel loyalty? Do they believe that they are fighting for the bett

"You know exactly where Dawn is. Dawn is with Arrow who has been her father figure since the beginning of her life. The expression on Sparrow's face remained constant yet I detected a brief glimmer in his eyes. His voice oozed condescension as he said, "I see you haven't moved past your bitterness." "How would I do that? To look at this ugly face?" His eyes scanned my features while he spoke, creating an impression that I was inferior to him.

Gabriel sat slumped at my bedside. I wanted nothing more than to escape this filthy, hypocritical home. So, I slipped out of bed quietly. But as I passed the study, I heard the parrot—the same cursed bird that had destroyed all three of my children—chattering inside. Hearing its voice, a surge of hatred flared in my chest. Without thinking, I pushed the study door open, filled with an urge to kill it. But the moment the door swung open, what I saw made me freeze to the core. It was a scene I would never forget for the rest of my life.

I never knew that this place existed in real life. Since I was young, I was locked up in an orphanage. And we aren't allowed to go out. I always wished that someone would adopt me. And that is my most regret in life. I thought I already saw rainbows and butterflies when Odin adopted me. But I was mistaken. The day he adopted me is the day my nightmare starts. I was just six years old back then when he brought me to The Ora. This is a secret criminal organization build-up of Hybrids and extraordinary beings with one mission: to destroy the world.

Jax threw back. The laughter floated in the air around him as the thrush began to fly in a flock around his head before dipping low to the ground and shooting skyward again. He watched as the very last thrush barreled toward his face and turned at the last minute, coming to a stop on the ground. One second, he was staring at the tiniest of birds and the next he was staring at a very beautiful woman with raven black hair and the brightest of green eyes. “Better,” she laughed.

I say, turning slightly to see my figure from the side. “Do you like it, Miss Harris? We need to make a decision in order to perform any alterations.” One of the ladies takes my hands in hers, smiling up at me. “I love it. But what’s the rush? It’s okay if the alterations take a few days.” I say, giving her a confused look. “Miss Harris, do you not know?” She asks, looking at the other ladies in the room as if asking for help. “Know what?” I ask, straightening up. “Miss Harris,” Another one of the ladies places her hand on my back, “Your wedding is tomorrow.”

“If that light goes out, so do I.” For a heartbeat she didn’t move. Then, softly: “Then stay close.” The words hung between them, fragile as the air they shared. Somewhere deep below, the Cradle’s pulse quickened—as if amused by their defiance, or moved by it. Above the metallic tree, a single leaf detached and drifted down. When it hit the ground, it melted into light, leaving behind a faint symbol scorched into the stone: a sparrow. Zevran saw it first. “Our friend again.”

My gaze dropped to the cover of the book in her hands, and I stilled for a moment. An erotica collection. I looked at her face again, at the focused little crease between her brows as she read, completely absorbed, cheeks faintly flushed without her even realizing it. A slow smile curved at the corner of my lips as I watched her. She reminded me of a red sparrow I once had. I had rescued the bird and nursed it back to health. But as soon as it got better, it tried to escape the pretty cage I had made for it. The bird's actions did not sit right with me, so I broke off its beak and cut off its wings, then sat there watching it until it died.

She was very happy for the old woman, and prayed that absolutely nothing would get in the way of this happiness that had been long overdue her and she was now experiencing. Sometime after dinner, Louisa noticed that there was some sort of tension in the room. Her mother and Lloyd suddenly looked anxious. Maybe they wanted her out of the house? Louisa knew from experience that new love— or in her case, renewed love was very weird like that. Affected couples saw no one but themselves, always wanting to spend time in each other’s company— always wanting to be in their very own bubble… She understood that very well— and she may be all things, but surely,
