I was about to look away when the caption caught my eye. Breaking news: Murder at the Tibetan embassy in New York. I froze. Then gasped. My fingers fumbled for the remote and I turned up the volume. The reporter’s voice filled the room, professional and completely detached from the panic surging through my chest. “Authorities confirm that Giancarlo Conti, a wanted trafficker and suspected mob leader, was killed earlier today during an attempted arrest…”

LAUREN POV: The kitchen was warm, the air thick with the scent of spices and something undeniably electric between us. Alexandro's gaze locked onto mine, his dark eyes smoldering with intent. I felt it in the way he moved, deliberate and hungry, like a predator closing in on its prey. I wasn't scared, though. I was anything but. My heart pounded in anticipation, my skin tingling as he stepped closer, his presence dominating the space. Before I could second-guess myself, he had me pressed against the cool granite of the kitchen counter.

But relaxation wasn't what I had in mind. I stood up and walked over to the bookshelf, running my fingers along the spines of the books until I found what I was looking for. The worn leather-bound volume felt heavy in my hands as I carried it over to the coffee table and opened it to the marked page. The intricate illustrations of whips, chains, and other BDSM paraphernalia made my pulse quicken with anticipation.

My lips felt like they were on fire. “I fucking missed this. And being this close, I wanted to…” he breathed, his eyes darkening, locked on my lips, making my heart pound frantically as I wondered what he meant..though my body already knew. “What are you doing?” I asked through gritted teeth, trying desperately not to show how affected I was, but he shut me up by pressing his large fingers harder against my lips. The heat of his touch dragged me into flashbacks..those same fingers curling inside me, teasing me, pushing me until I broke apart and squirted under his command.

I was hooked. The enemies-to-lovers trope was more than just spicy, it was intense, chaotic, and real. I didn't expect to be so drawn into their world, their fights, and resistance, and the way they pushed each other only to fall even harder.
