My gaze drifted unconsciously to his collarbone. There was a new tattoo there. Red, still swollen from being freshly inked, but unmistakable. It was my name. The characters were rendered in the most ancient, wild cursive form of script, like an old, binding sigil. My fingers trembled as I touched it. “When did you… get this?” Henry caught my hand and rubbed it gently against his palm. “Last night, after you fell asleep.” “Did it hurt?” “It was better that it hurt.” His eyes darkened, and a satisfied smile curved his lips.

I stopped. The tattoos I'd been catching fragments of for weeks were finally visible in their entirety, and they were — extensive. Dark ink covering both arms nearly to the wrists, climbing his chest and shoulders, wrapping around his back in patterns I couldn't fully read from here. A skull on his forearm, a snake threading through the eye socket, dark red and black. Words in Russian across his ribs — I could see them but not read them at this distance. On his chest, above his heart, a single phrase in Cyrillic I could just make out:

"Baby, what are you talking about? I don't understand. What are you going to do?" Maria smiled and rolled up her shirt sleeve, revealing a tattoo of a moon with a lightning bolt crossing it on the inside of her arm, just below the elbow. The tattoo had almost faded in color and shape, but it was still visible. Theodore's eyebrows raised. "Yes? What's wrong with your tattoo? Does it itch?" Maria smiled softly and said carefully, "Honey, if I told you I was a werewolf, would you believe me?"

His voice broke the silence, and I froze in my tracks. He turned his head slightly, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. “You can touch it. It doesn’t sting.” I hesitated, my fingers twitching at my sides. “Can I?” I asked softly. “Of course,” he replied, his tone calm and inviting. My hand moved almost on its own, reaching out to trace the lines of the tattoo. His skin was warm under my fingertips, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the artistry. But then, my eyes caught something else—a tiny inscription running down his spine vertically, just below the scorpion.

“But it’s more painful to work over the spine. The shoulder would be more comfortable.” I chew on my lip, considering it. I mean, I’ve just spent two weeks being broken, drowned, electrocuted and poisoned. Surely, I can’t balk at a tattoo? “Can you draw it out in the size you think would look best, with the runes worked in, and then we can, see?” I ask. “Absolutely. Give me about ten minutes.”

Her back arched into him and his skin on her skin dissolved the thoughts from her head. “Be still!” He snarled. Was it her imagination or was his voice gruffer than it was before? He yanked up the sleeve of her dress and exposed her tattoo. “A spider.” He spat, reviled. Yes, she was. Every assassin in The Den was called a Spider and damn him, she was the best at what she did!

It was then that I noticed the ink. A tattoo ran the length of her spine, and symbols were etched into her flesh in a neat vertical line from the nape of her neck to her tailbone. It was unexpected, a stark contrast to her otherwise innocent appearance. I leaned in, tracing a finger over the black ink. “Now, what’s this?” I mused aloud, my finger tracing the design.

Katherine pov For me, the sexiest spot a tattoo can be found is on a man’s rib and of course his fingers. I’ve heard a number of time how painful getting one on those spots can be, maybe that’s why I find it sexy. But is that why I can’t tear my eyes off this hot dude across this counter as well?

I couldn’t focus on what he was saying at all, my attention completely stolen by his bare chest. I couldn’t help but notice the armband tattoo on his left arm. The word “Moretti” was inked in a beautiful Old English font, with detailed lines making it look even cooler. His tattoos just added to that tough, masculine vibe he had going on. Then I saw the tattoo on his back. A raven, placed right in the middle of his back, near his shoulders and neck. It was so well done, I couldn’t stop staring at it, totally impressed.

The red scales unlike anything I had seen before, hints of gold looked as if they were painted fresh daily. As I turned my arm over, I could see where it looked as if two tail ends were touching. Resting in the middle was a circle, clearly it was made in the image of the moon. Plopping myself down on the couch to stop my pacing, I traced my tattoo gently with my fingertips. Tadeas had a matching tattoo also on his left wrist. They were simple, elegant, and powerful, I thought. It was hard to explain, having this on my wrist allowed me to feel as if he was always with me.
