The Black Widow spider bit down hard on Paula's hand, causing her to let out a sharp scream of pain that cut through the chaotic noise of the mall. "Oh my God, a spider bit me!" Paula instinctively shook her hand, but the spider flew off and landed on Oliver's foot. He couldn't escape either and was also pierced by the Black Widow's venomous fangs, making him hiss in pain. "Ouch, that hurts like hell!" Paula shouted loudly. I looked up and saw her hand turning black at a visible speed, with dark purple bruising spreading rapidly.

I wanted to pull him into a celebratory hug, but the urge to punch him for scaring me was stronger. “Where the fuck were you, you useless prick!” I snarled. The shout was a jagged mistake. A white-hot blade of agony sliced through my abdomen, stealing my breath. I clawed at the bedsheets, my hand instinctively flying to the fresh bandages. I could feel the poison. They had dug the silver out of me, but the metal had already left its mark. Silver was a slow, agonizing rot that didn't give a damn about my Alpha blood. My body wasn't knitting back together…it was fighting a war it was losing.

The ship had sailed. I felt like a desperate bitch. My phone vibrated. Lately, I felt excited when it did because no one had ever tried to remember calling me at this time. When I looked at the screen, it was not who I expected it to be. FORREST: Did you get home safe? I rolled my eyes before I typed my reply. NO. Why do you even care? I was dragged by a gargantuan spider in the alley, bit me, and imprisoned me with its gross and sticky web. Now, I’m dying. Lonely. And it’s all because of you.

His smile is sick and vile. I take my jacket off and put pressure on the wound. My hands are shaking, red from the blood. Why isn’t anyone helping? They all take their seats, and I am left alone on the floor on my knees, with a puddle of blood appearing. Spider’s breathing becomes shallow, and I can’t stop crying as I put pressure. “Spider, please, hang in there”, I say between tears, and I can hear Chris laughing.

I state even more firmly, staring him right in the eyes as well, squaring my shoulders and not being fazed by his anger. We fall into an unplanned staring match and I never back down for a second, deciding to bother about the consequences later. His blazing eyes stare into my soul and for a moment I begin to waver in my stance once his dominating aura has me in a chokehold. My wolf, being forced to yield, struggles under the weight of it. And then, when I didn’t think any of this could get worse, a fucking spider drops down with its web right between us. Instant fear ripples through me and my enter body recoils away from it just as I scream.

It circled me, its massive body blocking every exit. “Do you see it now?” Jacob’s voice hissed. “There’s no escape. No matter where you run, I’ll find you. I’ll break you. And when you’re gone, Jake will have nothing left.” I ignored him, focusing on the orb. The spider lunged again, its fangs snapping inches from my face. I dove to the side, the pain in my arm flaring as I hit the ground. Gritting my teeth, I pushed myself up and ran for the pedestal. The spider screeched, its legs slicing through the air as it chased me.

I watch Jonathan’s eyes grow wide when he looks into the cage, discovering his small mate being tortured for a power none of them understood. ‘You can’t take power from a Goddess, not like this. Our mates have saved us more times than we can count,’ Ruby growls while circling Dagon, as I look to see the younger version of her trying to comfort me in Rebecca’s grip. “You have no business being here!” Dagon bellows, rushing to attack Orin, when Jonathan rips Rebecca off my small form throwing her into the wall knocking her out.

I screamed, my feet sliding backward across the stone as I poured every drop of my soul into the silver shield. CRACK. A thin, jagged spiderweb of fracture lines suddenly appeared across the center of my light. Then another. And another. The dark hand leaned its immense weight against the barrier, black fire dripping from its claws, slowly grinding my defenses into dust. My knees buckled under the agonizing pressure. Sweat and blood trickled down my forehead, blinding my left eye, but I dug my boots into the cracks of the marble floor and gritted my teeth until they bled.

The red scythe hit him on the back, and his legs had already thrown the light body forward, under the unprotected belly of the spider: the shell here was very thin, soft and covered with a rare fluff. The spear pierced the carcass through and through, and an inhuman whistling scream hit the ears.
