A shadow moved along the snowline — not cloud, not hawk. Something watching, pleased. The taste of root and cold river slid over my tongue. I rolled my shoulders and turned toward it, not enough to invite, just enough to let it know I’d seen. “Come try it,” I said. “When you’re brave.” The shadow stayed. The wind moved.
