Finally, the council room doors opened, and the stench of cigar smoke hit me like a slap.

Marcello. Reclining in his oversized chair like a damn king on a rotting throne, cigar perched between his fingers, eyes as smug and dead as ever.
“Well, well.” He drawled, not even bothering to rise, “If it isn’t the family disgrace.”
“Hi, Uncle.” I said sweetly, striding in without invitation, “You’re looking... older. Is that liver failure or just your soul finally rotting?”
His lips twitched, but not into a smile, “Got that filthy tongue, I see. You must have gotten it from your mother. She was always the bitch.”
