Dima tilted her head toward him, a sly smile playing on her lips, her voice dripping with poisonous calm:
"Yes, they think we're asleep."
Silence returned, but the shadows on the walls shifted, stretching and changing unnaturally. The room no longer resembled an ordinary room, but a stage where unseen spirits moved, dancing slowly, awaiting their next turn.
- In the living room, where the dim lamps cast long shadows on the walls, Hussein stood frozen, as if suppressing a word he dared not utter. The scent of dust and incense still lingered in the corner, while the ticking of the clock echoed like an incessant whisper.
