It was very much like a dream. Yarsi slid off his saddle, sat on the ground, leaning back against the trunk of a nearby tree, and closed his eyes. He thought he fell asleep. In a dream, Matzher brought brushwood, kindled a fire and roasted a hare that had come from nowhere. Vic quickly jumped up from the ground and impatiently rubbed his hands, sniffing the scent hovering over the clearing.

Saph POV The sounds of birds chirping and squirrels rustling between trees stir me out of the weirdest dream. I was dancing with a clown, the sexiest clown…if that’s even a thing. My head is pounding, my skin feels itchy, and when I peel my eyes open, they are heavy with sleep and crusty in the corners from dirt. The bright rays of the early morning sunrise slice into my eyes, making me flinch them close once again. Too early.

As I slowly washed her hair, she leaned her head back and sighed in pleasure. “I think we left the champagne glasses outside,” she sleepily said. I worked some conditioner into her hair. “If we did, the squirrels have probably taken them by now.” Lanie scoffed. “Okay.” “There’s a new breed out here. It’s smarter and stronger than the brown, gray, and red squirrels combined.” “And what’s this new breed called?” she demanded. Done with rinsing her hair, I got to work soaping up her shoulders and back. “Uh, I think they’re calling it the hustler squirrel. They’re good at snatching and then reselling things for extra cash on Craigslist.”

It felt fine! My wandering eyes landed on two small squirrels quarreling their ways to the top of the tree. It was a chase for nuts that was driving me nuts. Like a lunatic, I keenly observed their flight from branch to branch that halted at the hollow hood while I slipped in the darkest lane of my brain. The chase closely resembled the cat and mouse game that had become of my life. For then, almost everything around me was reverting back and forth to the man I had spotted in the Phoenix. I wish...I just wish I could erase it.

His chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, and with each breath, I found a fragment of peace. Looking up, the tree goes through the clouds and keeps reaching up out of sight. You cannot even see the canopy of the tree before it fades into space.

It had been nice talking to Davina about things, but those women seems to know what is going on. "Scary shadows ? That doesn't sound like vaetter". Siri looks kind of surprised.
