The two of them just stared at each other, and I was, standing there like the odd one out. The last two years had been kind to my brother. No scars, no missing limbs. His ashy blond hair tied back into a low ponytail, right at the base of his neck. Clean shaven as always, a golden tint taken to his skin. Lean, and dorky in appearance, but still able to hold his own in a one on one. “...mate…” They both just said, in a very unison tone. My guess is the wolves were going insane inside their heads.

"Of what we did? But why are you here?" My brother kneels in front of me. He looks me right in the eyes. "I am here to help you," my brother answers. "How?" "By giving you these." My brother raises his hand and offers me JumpStart's stun batons. "JumpStart's stun batons," I say, looking at them. "Yes. As much as you don't want to hear it, your sword will do very little against Heavy Metal. These, however, will do. Here." He offers me JumpStart's stun batons but I slap them out of his hand.

Like it wasn’t a problem—like it wasn’t some kind of bullet sent to derail my thought. “But I'm your brother's wife,” I shot back. “Doesn't that mean something to you?” “Oh really–” He whispered, chuckling underneath his breath as he leaned forward with his elbows fixed on the table. “That didn't stop you before,” he teased. “So why would it stop you now?” “That was different, you were a stranger–” I said, my stomach twisted, like his nerve and audacity really did send me off the edge. His eyes ran over me again, as it took in every shift and every breath like he was reading a language he had memorised long ago.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude. I’m Luca, Damien’s brother.” My mother blinked. “Damien’s brother?” Luca nodded politely. “Yes. I heard about Mr. Valenci, and I just came to check on him. I didn’t want to disturb your rest, so Selena and I spoke out here.” Her brows lifted slightly in surprise. I could see the questions swirling behind her eyes. “Damien never mentioned a brother.” “I’ve been away for quite some time,” Luca said smoothly, not missing a beat. “Business overseas. I recently came back.”

Ruby quivered against me, the fur on the back of her neck bristling again. The guy tsked, taking a hand out of his pocket and wiggling his pointer finger irritably. "Don't you recognize me," he paused, drawing out the suspense, "brother?" Wait, I didn't have a brother. Brandy and Blake were my only siblings. Or so I thought. Ruby turned to me, jaw stretched wide, showing her pointy wolf teeth. Her eyes showed a reflection of mixed horror and betrayal, "You had a brother and you never told me?"

A large part of his hair was pulled off his head and immediately turned bald. Brother Cannon was quite satisfied. The little rogue's hair was quite long and dyed yellow. Brother Cannon grabbed it a few more times. The rogue screamed in pain. When he realized what was going on, he immediately took out his knife. "I'll stab you to death!" He stabbed Brother Cannon in the chest. Brother Cannon was experienced, so how could he care about this? He reached out and grabbed the rogue's wrist, and then his big hand exerted force. "Ah."

FREDERICK “Did you have to do it that hard?” I whispered, feeling tears gather in my eyes as I watched the Umbrella Man tower over my brother’s limp body, his brown eyes almost luminescent in the dark. “Quiet Frederick, you're ruining my groove, take him.” Stefan McCoy growled and I felt my heart hammer in my ribs as the masked ninjas dropped from the trees like banana monkeys, hooking my brother’s hard body onto the stretcher as I watched on with widened eyes.

My grip on my purse loosened. “I didn’t assume you to be kind of man to be that…solemn.” My words were coaxed by a wide smile. “There’s so much you don’t know…yet.” My face flowed with laughter at the wiggle of his brows. Stefan hid another smile as he mumbled. “My brother’s hosting this exhibition.” My mouth parted in astonishment. I didn’t know Stefan had a brother. “What? Do you have a brother? I didn’t know.”
