Mane had just employed one of those many moves: Exploding Wings. Mane’s mumble was the trigger for the huge fiery wings that grew on his back. The wings were several dozens of meters long and several meters wide. When they appeared on Mane’s back they rose high into the sky, and flapped rapidly. Yet their beating didn’t lift Mane up or take him into the sky. With the beating of those wings, the cry of a Phoenix filled the ears of all who were here, and several large flames descended upon the retreating goblins, burning them all to a crisp. The fire was stronger, completely eliminating the goblins in less than a second.

I can see the faint outline of what looks like wings spread behind her. Wings of fire that seem to take the shape of a heart… A piercing scream rips through the air as her power increases tenfold and surges into the sky, emanating in waves around her. I see the swirls of the flames behind her move before I see a tiny part of her left wing snap and shrivel into embers of ash. It’s too blinding to look at, and I’m forced to avert my gaze.

To my left, Akin stands tall, his obsidian wings sharp and sleek, the wind tugging at his tunic as his eyes sweep the battlefield like a soldier gauging his next strike. To my right, River’s wings are the color of deep, angry storms. They shift with energy, crackling faintly as his fists curl at his sides. The fire in him burns steady now, no longer a threat but a force I can trust.

At a glance, it was like flowing liquid, able to roast everything. Numerous Celestial Gods and Devils howled mournfully in the endless flames. In the end, they incinerated into ashes, scattering down like dense raindrops. Suddenly— "Screech!!!" A colossal single-horned bird spread its enormously wide wings, soaring into the sky from the endless sea of fire. Its wings were stained with scorching liquid flames cascading down its body, stirring up huge scarlet waves on the surface of the sea. It was a Bi Fang.

The match hadn't gone off either. "Rhea, we have to get out of here. The house is on fire" I said and grabbed her hand. Just as I made to pull her towards the window, she burned me with the lit matchstick. "Rhea....what are you doing?" I asked, bewildered. "I don't want to go anywhere with you, traitor" she droned. "What?" I stared at her, stunned. She ripped her hand out of my hold and took a step backwards. Without warning, she threw the matchstick at me. "Burn! I want to see you burn!" she yelled and poured the gasoline on me. Instantly, I burst into flames.

Before I could finish my sentence, Zeke clamped a hand over my mouth to stop me from saying anything more. His eyes were reddened and brimming with tears. Then, I heard his tears drip onto the floor as he cried. If this had happened in the past, I would've wiped away his tears while feeling heartbroken. However, instead of doing that, I stood still and silently watched him as he wept. I couldn't believe that someone like Zeke would cry over me. "I want to head overseas with you, Joanna," he choked out as he stared at me. I knew how much courage it took for him to say something like that.

Nyra’s POV Emberfall rose beneath us like a kingdom made from fire, stone, and stubborn life. For a few wild breaths, Seraphina refused to slow down. She cut through the sky with too much joy in her wings, gold scales flashing beneath the sun, the wind screaming around us in a way that felt less like danger and more like freedom. Spiro’s dragon flew ahead for half a second, then beside us, then behind us when Seraphina dipped suddenly, twisted through the open air, and shot forward like the whole sky had insulted her speed.

Prologue The sky burned red as fire rained down on the city of Celestial Falls. Thousands of large leathery wings flapped blocking out most of the light. The city felt as if it was midnight in the middle of the day. The roars of the beasts were deafening as they swooped down grabbing anyone who was unfortunate enough to be on the streets. People screamed in agony as their loved ones and children were taken never to be seen again. Celestial Falls had been a quiet place to live before the portal opened and the creatures arrived. One day they were happily going on with their lives and in an instant, they were living in a city of fire and blood.
