The night finally settled over the estate.
I lay curled up on the thin, damp mat, squirming in pain. I hadn't eaten anything since morning, and the starvation was beginning to take a brutal toll on my weak human body. My stomach had been growling violently for hours, leaving me helplessly chewing on the edge of my torn dress just to distract my mind from the gnawing empty agony inside me.
The only thing I could rely on was the sound of water dripping from the small, rusted pipe in the corner of the cell. I could still drink that, but what was I going to eat?
