Touched by a Vampire
Steven said without resentment, savoring the moment just as I was.
“You mean, I’m not dead?” I asked, confused. “I can go back?”
“You never left.” Steven brushed another strand of my hair away from my face.
All of a sudden, a baby’s cry sounded faintly behind me. “Jase …” I said. I looked over my shoulder, but there was nothing but darkness. Then, I turned back to Steven. “I have a son, Steven. Can you believe it?”
Steven smiled as tears of joy filled his eyes. “Yes, I know. He’s beautiful,” he said, then added, “I wish that I could have given you a child.”
