I opened up, the story pouring out of me like a confession, a raw, unfiltered account of a life I had long tried to forget.
"I was a farmer's son," I admitted, my voice a low murmur that was barely audible above the raging storm. "My father was a good man, a simple man. He taught me the value of hard work, of honesty, of living a good, decent life. But I wanted more. I wanted to see the world, to make a name for myself, to be a part of something bigger than myself."
