Patra clapped softly. “Perfect,” she said. “Let’s get rid of every trace of my ex.” Their son, Mike, stood by the stairs, watching them with sad, confused eyes. He tugged Patra’s dress. “Mom… did Daddy send a message yet?” Patra sighed impatiently. “Mike, go and play. Mommy is busy.” Benita snapped her fingers. “Boy! Go to your room!” Mike walked away slowly. His eyes welled up. He didn’t understand anything, but he could feel that something was very wrong. He missed his dad, Kelvin.

Mike said. I understood perfectly. Big Mike, also Michael Winters Sr., patriarch of the most brutal crime family in New York, had been waiting four years for this moment. And now David was gone, and there was no one left to stop him. "I need time," I said, because begging might buy me hours if I did it right. I sank to my knees slowly. “Please, give me just a few months to mourn. To respect your son's memory. Then I'll do whatever you want."

He needed to give her space. And so it would only make sense that he get the side of things from the other person involved in this sick and twisted game - Joel, his dad. --- "Oh honey, come in quick!" Mike bursted, surprised to see who was on the other side of the door. He hurriedly unlatched the lock on the screen door and held it, ushering K in. He was looking at his granddaughter, worry evident in his face. "Why the hurry? You could have waited 'til the morning to fly in from New York."

She also said Eugene had seen Ian as his biological father since he was a child, and she couldn't let anyone destroy everything they had built. Ian, however, had already tuned her out. He immediately hung up on her. The room fell into a dead silence. After a long while, he looked at me and said hoarsely, "I'll deal with her." I looked up at him calmly. "It doesn't matter who you deal with. It won't bring Mom back." Ian looked as if those words had nailed him to the spot. For what felt like an eternity, he didn't make another sound. … In no time, things spiraled out of control. Ian began to look into the money he thought he had given Mom and me over the years. I say, keeping my voice as calm as I can manage, “you need to stay focused. Desiree’s with me now. And if you’re thinking what I think you are, you need to bury it. For your own sake.” He doesn’t say anything, just stares out at the green with that same troubled look. And for a moment, I see a flicker of the boy I raised—the boy who looked up to me, who wanted to make me proud. But it’s gone as quickly as it came. “I’m not going to screw this up, Dad,” Mike says after a long pause. “I’ll get Mabel out. But just... remember your part of the deal.”

“Yeah, yeah, Dad. I’ll take care of it. See you at home.” I have to fight the urge to laugh out loud. Dad. Of course. It’s almost too perfect. Mike, the tough guy who prides himself on his bravado, still answering to Daddy. I lean back further, smirking to myself. This night might turn out to be worth it after all.

Not long after Keith and I made it back to the mansion, he received a phone call. With a furrowed brow, Keith glanced at the caller ID before answering. His expression darkened as he listened intently to the voice on the other end of the line.

"Stella?" "You know her?" Mom and Levi were abruptly behind Dad as they also stared at the picture and Mom's eyes widened as well, instantly staring up at Dad. "I thought she was locked up?" However, I do not move from there until a detective from the NYPD who knows my dad lets me into his office and closes the door. I sit on the faux leather chair and stare at Detective Ford. He’s tall, lean, and has a bald head and black skin. I would not call him friends with Dad since he goes against him sometimes. Seriously, Dan is Dad’s only friend. Everyone else is just an acquaintance. Oh, and Detective Ford has a strong sense of justice, so that puts us on the same side, because Dad definitely does not have that. “You are not supposed to be here, Ms. Shaw.”

my father explained, leaning forward. "You heard Alpha Christian's assessment. They don't believe we will apprehend Mike or come across his family easily.
